I am looking to relocate out of New York with my (very conservative) Family. We are currently looking specifically in the Daytona-area in Florida and near Nashville, Tennessee. My wife and I travelled to Florida last week and met realtors; we plan on heading to Nashville next.
They State of NY has already killed my father in a nursing home and now are are requiring shot after shot for my kids to go to school. We need to get out ASAP.
I would appreciate any suggestions, thoughts, or comments from Freepers. Thanks.
Bozeman, MT. But, everyone’s moving here.
We escaped Albany NY to Salem Virginia :) Got a house last year in the middle of the bubble and this year we’d be priced out. It may not be absolute freedom but it’s damned better than NY.
Cheers!
The western end of the Florida panhandle is better than Daytona. Very conservative (thanks to military retirees who were stationed at Naval Air Station Pensacola and Eglin AFB). Excellent public schools. Affordable cost of living. The beaches! Kayaking/canoeing/deep sea fishing/cycling clubs/ etc.
South Dakota…specifically a suburb of Sioux Falls. Winters are rough but lots of other advantages.
You either like mind numbing hot weather 24/7 or you want a moderate seasonal change.
IF you want a change of seasons you might also consider the mountains of NC. Not Ashville. North of there along the TN border. IMHO, one of the best areas east of the the Rockies.
‘’’’’’’
Yeah I got family that neck of the woods. Madison County.
Think about what country side you like to live in and go from there.
I moved from the greater NYC metro area to the suburbs of Phoenix 20 years ago. Great lifestyle and burgeoning economy.
Unfortunately, lately Arizona and Texas are being overrun lately liberal Californians fleeing the state. The few conservatives are welcome but not the crazy progressives.
If Dr Seuss had to tell the fable of California socialists migrating to the land of their Great Satan, Texas, it would go something like this:
Socialist rich folks, the Richies, who voted for the heehaws in magical California could afford higher heating costs. The other major branch of the California socialist family, pretty much everyone else, known as the Gimmestuffians, who also voted for heehaws, either could not afford the higher cost or simply did not want to pay it. Neither branch wanted the Greatsatanists living in Texas, who did not vote for heehaws, producing the evil fuel that they needed to heat their homes, which caused the higher energy costs they did not want to pay. Moreover, virtuous Richies in California did not want to transfer their own wealth through higher state taxes to the Gimmestuffians in their socialist family to keep them warm. Instead, they wanted Fedenstein, their bully big brother Federal government,to overreach and force the Greatsatanists to subsidize their family virtue by way of energy distribution and price controls, thus further reducing energy supply and causing further price spirals Eventually, the Richies left the Gimmiestuffians behind and moved into the Greatsatanist house to keep warm. They immediately threw out all the boom boom shooting toys Greatsatanists played with when they were not making evil fuels. To this day, they do not allow the Greatsatanists to touch them. The moral of this story is sharing to a socialist means sharing someone else’s wealth, preferably someone whose values they do not share and thus do not like.
If you decide on Nashville DO NOT live in Davidson County! That Nashvile. It’s taxation hellhole. Franklin is to the south and real nice place, but pricey.
as long as you’re conservative, come on down.
leave your left leaning relatives behind.
you’ll all be happier in the long run.
Agree with you about Springfield.
Was on vacation there about four years ago. Drove thru a couple of residential neighborhoods at random just to see what was going on.
From what I saw and researched, schools are decent, crime is relatively low, it’s a Red area, has all of the amenities, such as shopping, medical, etc.
Texas has terrible property taxes. If you are close to retirement and plan to outright own your home why should you have to rent it from the state? In Texas you have to pay the state permanently a lot no matter how old you are, even if you have zero income (living on savings with too little social security to trigger tax, a possibility for many).
I always have thought I would like to live in Texarkana on the Arkansas side, cheap property tax, access to Texas. It is still too far from family for me however.
The states you are looking at are great, Tennessee has cheaper property tax probably, and it DOES have a state income tax but it is not terribly high. Arkansas is worth looking at though.
how’s yer spanglish?
“No-See-Ums”
You can slap yourself silly tryin’ to kill those things
Wonder if Kevin Costner is to blame...
I thought Snake was dead.
I like Lander. Sheridan is nice too. If you like small towns, consider Thermopolis
Cheyenne is livable and close to the big city stuff in Colorado if that’s what you like.
