Escape from New York (Vanity)
1-11-2022 | Self

Posted on 01/11/2022 6:18:33 AM PST by Freedomlibertyjustice

I am looking to relocate out of New York with my (very conservative) Family. We are currently looking specifically in the Daytona-area in Florida and near Nashville, Tennessee. My wife and I travelled to Florida last week and met realtors; we plan on heading to Nashville next.

They State of NY has already killed my father in a nursing home and now are are requiring shot after shot for my kids to go to school. We need to get out ASAP.

I would appreciate any suggestions, thoughts, or comments from Freepers. Thanks.

Florida has three seasons. The fire season, the rainy season and the snowbird season.

The fire season when it gets dry and unless you keep the tinder away from your house, you will loose it. The rainy season includes hurricanes, which is the reason for high homeowners' policies. And the Snowbird season when all the folks come from up North to get away from the cold and the snow.

The trouble with the snowbirds lately is that they don't want to go back north and keep their stupid politics with them. They are buying up homes sight unseen, driving the prices up like a rocket.

Tennesse is a much more family-oriented state but they will let you know that the wokeness is not welcome there. It's God and Family in Tennessee. So, if you like wokeness please try California, Washington or Oregon.

Tennessee has all three seasons very nicely. but please keep the Defund the Police Democratic nonsense away from our state.

Never thought “Escape From NY” would become reality...so quickly.

“It’s God and Family in Tennessee.”

Mostly in eastern TN (Knoxville).
Some in mid-TN (Nashville).
Not so much in western TN (Memphis).

Had a friend who recently left HI for TN, near Chattanooga. He loves it, he choose TN over TX in part due to favorable taxes.

You know, we abandoned Michigan and moved to south central Indiana and have never regretted it at all. Prices are still very reasonable out in the country compared to both of your states, also a big fat red state not likely to change any time soon. Might have blue around us, but to quote a great war fighter once - “We have them surrounded from the inside!”

I was in the electric sign business for 25 years in FL and I serviced a Waffle House sign on 192 in St Cloud once. 85 foot ladder truck extended all the way to reach it because St Cloud had no sign ordinances. Each letter was a 4x4 foot cabinet. It was mid summer and on the third trip up the ladder I got woosie from the heat/humidity at about 70 foot up. Luckily I made it back down without passing out.

Our son can’t take the heat and passed out once from it. That was here in MO where mid July to mid Sept can be just like FL with 95-98 temp and 100% humidity. Only two months though, not six.

Was just in Boone a few days ago, briefly to pick up my kid, but it was a nice area I thought too.

>I’m looking for a red state or at least a red-trending purple state

Lancaster, Chester, York County, SC. Lotta of growth, close to Charlotte, several lakes, a few hours from the beach.

If you get rural property, the property taxes are dirt cheap.

The Northeast Coast of Florida is far less prone to hurricanes than the Gulf Coast.

The last time a hurricane landed in Jacksonville where I live was 1964, based on longitude/latitude Orlando is further East than Jacksonville.

Here is a link that goes back to the late 1800’s tracking where hurricanes have landed in Florida, the most hurricane prone area of Florida is West Florida on the Gulf Coast, the Pensacola area, in fact the least hurricane prone area of Florida is North East Florida on the Atlantic.

We escaped upstate NY (Capital District) after 22 years of exile and fled to the Outer Banks of NC. We had paid off our house in NY which certainly helped our move, and I now work remote.

We put 25% down on a house that overlooks the Albemarle Sound, we have sunset views, and are in an X flood zone about 25 feet above the water. Our combined property taxes, HOA and insurance are less than we paid in property and school taxes alone in NY. Our house in NY was assessed for half of value of the house we bought. NC is a 2A-friendly state, we’re about 6 minutes to the beach, have direct Sound access and a far more relaxed way of life.

Yep, very nice area, especially Saratoga County. The problem is that it is surrounded by decaying cities of Albany, Schenectady and Troy. Even Saratoga Springs is now gone totally Leftist. The once strong and proud Saratoga GOP now endorses candidates like Kasich, all but dead as a party.

Nashville is fast becoming a Democrat hell hole. I used to love visiting that city. Now I’ll just pass through without stopping.
There are plenty of places left but my advice is to move to a very sparsely populated small town miles and miles from the nearest big city. This will insulate and protect you better if the shtf ever happens.

Between the man eating sharks and alligators, water moccasins, mosquitoes big as cats and hurricanes, unless you have deathwish I’d recommend nobody ever, ever move to Florida.

And please include those dadgum No-See-Ums!

Dealing with mosquitos and No See Ums in December and January SUCKS!

Lived in Florida since 1969 and can't wait to retire and head for the hills!

When I was last in Florida I was swimming a few miles off Jupiter and ended up with over a dozen bull sharks circling around me. It kinda gives you the heeby-jeebies to see them so close but realistically, the odds of getting chomped are low. You can see so many sharks in the shallows right on the beach with people in constant close proximity. If most sharks were actually looking to munch on human meat, the death count would be astronomical.

Nashville is now to Tennessee what Austin is to Texas. A radical leftist hotbed.

I’d advise against it.

I live in a little place called Lake Park,GA. It’s south of Valdosta. You might want to check out south GA. We originally looked in FL as our kids were living there but could not find anything we liked or could afford. Anyway, check it out.

Appalachia is usually conservative and safe except for large cities. Florida is subject to natural disasters.

Indiana, particularly the northern suburbs of Indianapolis, is very nice and conservative too.
