Any Freepers ever see a Doors show live? If so, where and what was it like?
We use OTA TV - not big TV watchers.
100%. Super cool. Where they good yet?
They were good.
Got it. More power to you.
In the top left of the photos below, you see a 20-year-old Jim Morrison on the bridge of the carrier USS Bon Homme Richard with his Dad in 1964, just a few months before that Gulf of Tonkin incident - which is considered the spark that ignited U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War.
George did not exactly approve of Jim's career choice of rock musician. In fact, after hearing the debut Doors album, considered today one of rock's all-time masterpieces, George penned Jim a letter urging him to give up a musical career because he obviously "had no talent in that direction."
Needless to say, relations between Jim and his Dad were virtually non-existent from that point in. Makes one wonder how Jim's life would have turned out if his father embraced and supported his career. Maybe he would not have drunk and drugged himself to an early death?
As a weird postscript, the Bon Homme Richard, the same carrier that the Morrison's are pictured on just below, was de-commissioned on July 2, 1971 with Admiral Morrison giving the keynote speech during the ceremony.
The very next day in Paris, George's son was also "de-commissioned" - so to speak.
Very interesting. Thanks for posting it.
Here. Check this out. You can get AMC and many other channels for free. Not all of the links work though
Thanks!!
Their record label, Elektra?, made what I thought were exceptional vinyl. I don’t really know, maybe it was their producer that made the sound so impressive. Played those records a lot.
Never went to a concert, but I walked between train stations passing through Paris, on my way to Spain (”carry me caravan, take me away, take me to Portugal take me to Spain”), on the day Morrison died there.
Yw. I’m surprised I didn’t think about it before. It’s funny what circulates around in your subconscious and bubbles up out of nowhere.
