Our twenty-something son came home for the holidays with the sniffles and we had him take a home Covid test, which came up positive. He’s going to the health department today for a formal test, but it does appear that we have an uninvited guest in the house.

My wife, 16-year-old son, and myself are not vaccinated. We are going to keep our distance and take some basic precautions. We will also be consulting our MD for advice and get ourselves tested after a suitable incubation period. We are taking zinc, vitamin D, and aspirin.

We can’t ask our son to leave. He just went through a bad breakup with a long term girlfriend. Things are also a bit complicated due to his dog being here with him and she’s mixing it up with our dogs.

Again, we’ll be seeking some real medical advice, but I’m curious:

What would any of you do in this situation?

Monoclonal antibody infusions are the best therapeutic available to fight covid. They are effective and real medicine. It’s what Trump was given. But you won’t get them administered if your blood oxygen falls below 94% so don’t waste time screwing around or your boy will miss the window and could end up seriously ill.

You are. Even the quick test can distinguish covid from influenza or a cold. 48 hr PCR is more precise and one version can take it down to the variant.

It's called a Pulse Oximeter...They measure HR and SpO2

The little finger one's are useful....But you can get different numbers on different digits.

Cold hands / fingers...hard to get SpO2 numbers...I've used a full time continuous Pulse OX...on many Pt's...sometimes we have better luck with the ear lobes....but you can't use the finger POX on the ear....

False readings are common...Movement, chewing with ear lobe placement....finger placement is good when the Pt. doesn't move much....

We take the HCQ in tonic water which has quinine.

What tonic water do you drink? Look into it - some name brands don't have any quinine in them, they just add a bit of bittering to mimic the taste. FDA regs limit quinine in tonic water to 83 ppm, which is about 40 mg in a half-liter bottle. So you'd need to drink about 20 of those bottles to hit malaria-level quinine dosages, and that's assuming your manufacturer is hitting the max amount allowed, and not cheaping out and only adding half or even less.

It’s been on FR several times already, which you would have seen if you were paying attention. I figured it would just be a matter of time before another thread came up addressing it, and here we are already.
