Regarding the million Americans comment:
If anyone knows a Chinese person, especially an American Chinese person, well enough, ask what they might know or have heard.
I don’t think these people are long-standing Chinese Americans who were abducted while visiting relatives in China. I would think too many of the family here would make too much of an issue for it not to be known.
Could it be kids born to Vietnamese women who had American GI boyfriends? A million seems a bit high for this.
Pompeo may have used the term “American” too loosely. It could be people from Hong Kong who settled here and were well on their way toward becoming legal American citizens but aren’t naturalized yet and were snatched when going back to Hong Kong to visit.
I don’t think it is anchor babies. Would Pompeo really want to give them that kind of status? Isn’t he against the whole Mexican anchor baby thing?
I at first thought he had a slight synapse misfire and meant the Uyghurs, but I would think he would have issued a clarification by now if that were the case.
Has he been challenged on his comment by the media? If he hasn’t, maybe he just hasn’t had a reason to state that he misspoke.
Has Gordon Chang weighed in?
Cheshire; I agree. Long term families would speak up.
Puzzling! Maybe he meant to say Africans instead of Americans? I could almost believe a million Africans are being forced to work for the CCP. Rhetorical technique...perhaps he deliberately misspoke to draw attention to a subject he will make or clarify at some future time.
What do they say? Write it on a sticky note and pin it on the board until there is more information I guess. (Data point rather than article of belief.)
