The California Air Resources Board (CARB) passed a regulation aimed at “Small Off-Road Engines” on Thursday that will ban the sale of portable generators in the state — which includes generators mounted in recreational vehicles.
The ruling bans the sale of gas-powered leaf blowers and lawnmowers in the state beginning in 2024. Portable generators will be required to meet more stringent standards in 2024 and meet zero-emission standards starting in 2028.
In the 2024 model year, portable generators will have to improve their efficiency by somewhere between 40% and 90%, which seems unrealistic in such a short period of time, so the reality is, it will be very hard to find a generator in Calfornia in two years.

Take the worst that a HOA board can do, and you have the current California legislature.
They will be self-charging.
Exactly, with how bad PG&E is in the state, and now that thousands are without power right now snd running on generators, what will they do after 2024? No power. 3rd world country status
I can’t believe people aren’t streaming out of that hell-hole faster than they are. It’s amazing what people will put up with.
Welcome to Haitifornia.
All those that are living off the grid will now have no backup power.
I have several two-stroke street licensed trail bikes that drive them crazy.
Maybe each Mexican sneaking across the border can carry a generator with him.

Still illegal - Mexicans eat a lot of beans, beans generate methane, hence Mexicans are illegal.
That’s exactly what they want.
Don’t they use them for pumps to pump water to put out the fires?
Oh, the next round of outages in California is going to get really interesting...
California will survive just fine. Californians? Not so sure. The reconquista of the remnants of California by the next generation of homesteaders and prospectors will be worth all of the misery and suffering.
“what will they do after 2024”
The people making these decisions, and those they serve don’t care what problems they create for the hoi polloi. It’s just not taken into account.
But here’s the answer. In the fall of 2019, before the Rona, and during the Norcal rolling blackouts, I was on the morning ferry from Sausalito to San Francisco, and overheard two of the passengers, obvious financial types talking about their Tesla “powerwall” batteries. One guy had installed two, the other only had one, and they were discussing upgrading. These things cost, I think, around 15 grand each, installed.
The elite have their power, the rest of us can just freeze in the dark.
The National Guard will be called out to arrest people that have lights on.
Surprisingly, sale of diesel gensets will not be banned.
“in case of a black out you have to stay blacked out”
Solar lights. Just sayin...
California is lost. Just have to figure out how to contain the damage from spreading.
Well, funny you should mention that. I’m meeting the movers tomorrow at 8:00. We’ll be getting settled in Texas in a couple of weeks.
Do they use generators at tailgate events?
