I’m glad all you families are taking care of them.

That’s what I was thinking.

Just came from pet store. The cashier said it would be $29.50, but I heard $49.50, and exclaimed “ how much?”, lol. I said these days one never knows, and everyone around and in line started talking about rising prices.

Either liability or union contract.

Yeah, I wanted to keep him here and hire someone but his children thought the memory care was a better option. When he first went there and the first 6 months, it was great, he made friends and they kept him busy all the time with activities, he had a walking group, he really liked it. He took a real bad turn about 3-4 months ago where he started hitting people and became aggressive and they have had to medicate him for that. While it did calm his agitation, it made his confusion worse. He is very frail now and cannot handle his grooming anymore. He is still able to feed himself and shuffle around without a walker though.

He still makes me laugh though, I did his nails yesterday and when I was done, he felt all his nails and said, “you missed one”. He had a full beard (never in his life had one) and didn’t even realize it. But when we shaved him, he felt his face and pointed out all the places we missed. It was pretty funny!

Good point about the liability. Hubby thinks too that it is possible that because the facility is part of a chain, that there are vendors they have to use chainwide. I don’t know. What is really sad is flood emergencies and remediation is what my son does, and he does health facility accounts/hospitals. HE called them the day the leak happened and offered to go there that day with this crew, stop the leak and start the remediation. He believes that he could have saved them from having so much damage and having to move people. IDK

Sweet! My friend in Midland that took care of her MIL, would get upset when Mary got mad at her, even though she is a health professional. I told her not to take it personal, even though I’m not a medical professional. But I guess it’s easier when you’re not the everyday caretaker.
My friend put off the doctors wanting to put Mary on drugs to calm her, which was good, but there comes a time.
I know this is hard for you all, I’m sure you remember the man he used to be.

Policies, regulations and contracts get in the way of good sense and what is best for the patients.

That’s a man, baby.

Okay....at the very least, a strong resemblance to Keith Richards, imo.

So much to say about this, so little time.

However, from patient care perspective, perhaps it is easier to have the AL patients remain as they can more easily adjust and adapt to what sounds like extensive construction and repair work.

The Memory Care folk will be in one place until it is over, then transitioned back to the original home. Probably easier for them, once they get used to the new, temporary situation.

And yes, policies, regulations and contracts can be a miserable challenge even when things are going “well”.

Yes, he punched a resident and they waited (hoping) it was a one-time thing. But he punched and knocked down two other residents, including a lady. He went through the gamut of tests at the hospital, then a month in a dementia ward of a mental health facility while they tried to figure out the best way to treat him and rule out any other physical causes. In the end, they concluded it was dementia-related.

It had to happen, being angry and agitated and a threat to others is not how he would want to be and he couldn’t live in the MC or here that way. He is happier and calmer, even if he is more confused. If it were me, I would choose the latter.

I would agree except that none of the repair work was on the Memory Care wing. They only had the loss of one common area, they still had their dining room, activity room, courtyard and none of their apartments were affected.

All of the damage and repair work is in the AL wing.

I was excited, at 1st, when Matt Salmon got into the race, remembered him from when he was in the House, then I began reading about him and got really unexcited.

Matt is too tied at the hip with the McPains.

I can’t be for him when he crows about McPain being his mentor and he thought he was better than sliced bread.

Kari has stepped up and walked the walk.

Is she fooling us?

I certainly hope not or she will be a one term Governor.
