African American composer W. C. Handy wrote in his autobiography of the experience of sleeping on a train traveling through (or stopping at the station of) Tutwiler, Mississippi around 1903, and being awakened... The man at the train station is rumoured to be Henry Sloan...An Elder from Dockery Plantation that taught Charley Patton to play.. The Peavine Railroad went from Dockery to "Where the Southeren Cross the Dog" a few miles away to connect to all points North and West.I'm Going Where The Southern Cross The Dog by Henry Sloan - First Blues song heard by WC Handy | October 30, 2013 | Solihin Achmad
(wow, I'd never seen this one before, two out of three of my favorite ancient blues players -- the third one had been dead for years at this point -- plus one of the runners-up)Bukka White, Skip James and Son House at Newport Folk Festival | February 19, 2021 | Kaspar 'Berry' Rapkin
That was great. Thanks.
It’s like Going Down the Road Feeling Bad, talking about the chilly winds.
This here is great, too. It’s Bull Doze Blues by Henry Thomas, the recording Canned Heat ripped off. You can hear some of the same lick in it as it Southern Cross the Dog.

I love the old vernacular. Southern cross the dog is where two rail lines meet in Mississippi, the Southern and “The Dog”, Yellow Dog being the nickname for the Yazoo and Mississippi line — where the Southern crosses the Dog.
Thanks! I’ll probably add that a bit later (in a rush right now).
I couldn’t figure out what Booker’s second song was, any idea?
Decoration Day.
Thanks!

It’s odd to think that, if there were an ELP reunion, it would consist of the original drummer. Turns out, when I looked him up, Cozy Powell has been dead 23 years. Both drummers from The Nice are dead as well.
