Magnus, the two-time defending champion, has the world's top rating in the classical-timeframe format at 2855, while Nepo is fifth-rated at 2782. In their previous classical games prior to this match, Nepo is ahead 4-1.
The match is 14 classical games in Dubai. A win counts as 1 point and a draw as 1/2. Each player has two hours for his first 40 moves and one added hour for his next 20.
As always, Agadmator provides excellent brief commentary and analysis:
I have a chess app with a skill level that can be adjusted from 1 to 25. Where would the 25 skill level rank in the chess world?

Damn impressive against a player many consider to be the GOAT.
A BTT for Agadmator. “Capturescapturescaptures. There is nothing more to be done here...”
No idea.
I believe those games were a decade or so ago and thus hardly indicative.
Whats the background on Agadmator? I’ve watched many of his utube commentaries on great historical games but always wondered if he was ever a highly ranked player or just a Howard Cosell of Chess?
My favorite episode was April Fool’s Day 2020, when Tony’s girlfriend Yelena “took over” so masterfully.
Master level.
Highest rating was ~2100, maybe 1950 now. He taught himself English by watching Seinfeld and then taught himself to be excellent. He is prospering and is a new father.

I know Magnus, and he is very impressive. I’m rooting for him to keep his crown.
Depends on which app. Actually, you could download the Play Magnus app, which has a chess engine which has been tuned to emulate his style of play at different ages. Look for it on the app stores.
He has developed so many more catch-phrases that viewers find endearing and fun. Clearly, that’s part of his successful formula.
Between 2100 and 2300, probably. Incredibly hard to beat. These ratings have become a tad inflated over the years, but the highest of high skill levels have also definitely improved through the use of computer analysis.
I’ll never know what rating my brain could have achieved, because I spent my leisure time on golf rather than chess. Now, I’m 72 and suffering from noggin deterioration.
At least according to my son who is following this even more closely than I, tomorrow is a rest day, and game four is Tuesday.
Tomorrow is a rest day. The next game is on Tuesday.
Thanks—hadn’t heard.
