He can’t sing worth spit... But he can write a poem and put it to music. He’s been relevant for 50 years... When’s the last time McCartney wrote a meaningful song? Neil Young has had meaningful songs in pretty much every decade for 50 years.

I always thought he was inconsistent. One album would be a classic and the next a total dud.

I've always viewed Neil Young like I view Rod Stewart - when he's good, he's really good but when he's bad, he's really bad. Little or no in between.

I have always liked Four Strong Winds. Young's unpolished vocals really worked well with this song, of course, heavily supported by Nicolette Larson's backing vocals.

Heard an interview with him once where he described how he came to write Old Man. He was looking to buy a large ranch in Montana, Wyoming or some western state after he had made a ton of money but was still in his 20’s. Was driving around a ranch with the old ranch foreman (Hispanic). Foreman “excuse but how does a young man like you get the money to buy a place like this?” Young thought for a moment and replied “I wrote a song “. Foreman replied “you don’t say”. Young said he took that brief experience and wrote Old Man.
