For the first time since Alec Baldwin accidentally shot one crew member and injured another while filming for Rust, the armourer for the film has spoken out.
Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins passed away on Thursday, October 21, as a result of the incident. The film’s director, Joel Souza was also injured.
Baldwin had not known the gun had live ammunition in it, however the 63-year-old has been subject to extreme online abuse in the wake of the incident.
The set’s armourer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, has now spoken out about the tragedy.
Jason Bowles and Robert Gorence, Gutierrez-Reed’s lawyers said safety was her ‘number one priority on set’ and that she wanted to take the opportunity to ‘address some untruths’, Metro reports.
They said:
Ultimately this set would never have been compromised if live ammo were not introduced. Hannah had no idea where the live rounds came from.
Hannah and the prop master gained control over the guns and she never witnesses anyone shoot live rounds with these guns and nor would she permit that. They were locked up every night and at lunch and there’s no way a single one of them was unaccounted for or being shot by crew members.

As the armourer, she and the prop master had one job - make sure the prop was safe. They blew it and someone died.
Did anyone take prints from the fired rounds empty case?
There has been speculation that live rounds were introduced by union members...
One would hope so...

Well, someone was killed. The investigation will determine who blew what. You might be a bit premature pinning it on her.
Props don’t shoot.
I lol’ed at “extreme online abuse”.

In picking up the firearm Alec Baldwin became responsible for determining whether or not the firearm had live ammunition in it. As executive producer Baldwin was responsible for the hiring and supervision of all and any of the people who could have loaded or handled the firearm.
I'm sure it'll be fine.
“”she had been overruled on safety issues.””
If true that is the moment she should have loaded up all her weapons and gear and left the set.
We’re going to hear a lot of statements from lawyers about the innocence of their clients, and everybody is going to be pointing fingers at everybody else. The SO is still investigating and taking statements, more and more info will come to the surface.
“Hannah had no idea where the live rounds came from.”
The big problem she has to face is how a round or rounds got into one of her pistols.
Looks mature and level headed to me /SARC
> Props don’t shoot. <
Actually they can. A prop gun is just a property gun, meaning it’s being used on the set. So a prop gun could very well be a real gun.
But yeah, you’re on the right track. A prop gun shouldn’t be able to shoot. Why they still use real guns is beyond me. A fake gun plus special effects should do the job just fine.
If that is true, then they commit murder. 1st degree IMO.
That would be a certainty by LE IF the ammo was still in the gun and hadn’t been handled after the “accident”. Boy, if the ammo was still unhandled at that point, they have the perp...
A good lawyer would have told her to keep her mouth shut. Is she being set up to be the fall ‘guy’ for Baldwin?

Actually it was her lawyers who spoke out.
And the gun itself.
No one, and I mean NO ONE lays a finger tip on my guns other than me. They’re all in a vault/gun safe, and I’m in process of buying another just for the ammo because it makes sense.
