The United States Department of Justice is accelerating its antitrust probe into Apple and there is increased likelihood that Apple will face an antitrust lawsuit, reports The Information.
Citing internal sources with knowledge of the investigation, The Information says there has been a "flurry" of activity as the DOJ has continued to question Apple, its customers, and its competitors about Apple's control over the iPhone. The DOJ sent new subpoenas to Apple's business partners over the summer, and has assigned more staff to the probe.
Specifics have yet to be nailed down, but The Information's sources believe that the investigation will lead to a lawsuit. Apple has been under investigation by the DOJ for two years now, and the probe is part of a broad investigation that has seen the Justice Department looking into Apple, Google, Facebook, and Amazon.
The DOJ has spoken with Apple critics that include Spotify, Match Group, Basecamp, and Tile, all companies unhappy with Apple's App Store policies and control.
Attorneys involved in the probe will eventually give the Department of Justice a recommendation on whether or not to file a lawsuit against Apple, but no formal recommendation has been made at this point in time, and there's still a possibility that no case will be filed as the investigation is ongoing.

WTF?
Display Analyst: 4.7-Inch 5G 'iPhone SE Plus' Coming in 2022, iPhone SE 3 With Larger Display Planned for 2024 | Monday October 25, 2021 5:14 pm PDT by Juli CloverRumors have suggested that Apple is working on a next-generation version of the iPhone SE that's set to be released in 2022, and a new rumor from display analyst Ross Young suggests that Apple will call this device the "iPhone SE Plus" even though it's not going to be getting a bigger display.
Young says the upcoming iPhone SE will feature the same 4.7-inch LCD display that's available in the current version of the iPhone SE, which itself adopted the display size from the now-discontinued iPhone 8. This is in line with prior rumors that we've heard about the device, all of which have indicated that Apple is planning to stick with the 4.7-inch form factor.
“the probe is part of a broad investigation that has seen the Justice Department looking into Apple, Google, Facebook, and Amazon.”
Once again, the _actual_ story is that an issue is made against many companies, but the article focuses on “Apple” because clickbait.
Once again, it’s sourced on MacRumors, not GoogleRumors, FacebookRumors, or AmazonRumors.
Dems shaking down Apple to get them to censor even more and kick them even more $$$ in campaign donations.
Tim Cook et al may find it interesting that Trump did not move against Apple, but Biden’s puppeteers are.
I’ve never owned an apple product and this kinda speaks to why. Too proprietary.
Ever heard the story about the frog and the scorpion?
Well, this will shake down Apple. I predict money will now rain down into Democrat coffers ahead of 2022.
"Apple recently came out largely ahead in its lawsuit with Epic Games and the judge decided that Apple had not violated U.S. antitrust law, but The Information's sources say that the DOJ's investigation is broader because it is also examining issues like Sign in With Apple, App Tracking Transparency, and location tracking restrictions, so the Epic loss will not hinder a potential DOJ case."
These seem like piddly issues to me. That said DOJ went after Microsoft under Clinton/Reno over the embedded browser. Turned out to basically be a non-issue since most users were gravitating to other web browsers anyway. Though with these issues they are specific to Apple and Apple keeps a tight grip. I still say they need to separate their music and app store. Others disagree with me based on security issues. I think the same issues apply to desktops and laptops and those are not tied to specific "stores". People need to find apps from trustworthy sources.
Unless the Demonicrats get a substantial campaign donation beforehand.
Another report points to unexciting iPhone SE 3 design; claims could be called SE Plus

Apple doesn't make political campaign contributions.
It’s never about what they say it’s about. My guess is they have a list of podcasts and apps they want censored.

Shades of 2000 and Microsoft. That was one of the big catalysts for the dotcom crash.
... yet.
I want the DOJ to make a virulent enemy of Apple, not a compliant friend.
