This is exactly why the armoror (a 24-year old with no experience who may have been hired due to nepotism) should have opened the gun to check. And why Baldwin (who was a producer, not just an actor following orders) should have checked.
And also why you never point a gun at anyone - cheat the angles for movies. And don’t pull the trigger unless you mean to kill whatever you are aiming it. And, and and, ....

I think this may turn out to be the key to the tragedy.
If this is true, and I heard the same report yesterday, I believe someone used an insufficient or defective powder charge creating a “squib round” condition. (This is when the round (projectile/bullet) is only propelled partway through the barrel and lodges there.)
If the same weapon was loaded later and fired using a blank conversion cylinder (and noone had checked to ensure that the barrel was not obstructed) the lodged projectile would then be propelled out w/lethal force.
Note that the above situation still indicates the armorer and possibly others were still negligent.
An actor can point to the producer for a lack of safety protocols.
A producer can point to the actor for mishandling the firearm.
In this case, Baldwin has nobody to point to but himself.

Suspect the fix is already in. Why wasn’t Baldwin arrested immediately for suspicion of homicide, drug and alcohol tested and the gun confiscated and the remaining casings ( if any) tested for prints and DNA ? What was happening on the set when he shot her? He must have been really close if the bullet or projectile went through her and wounded the second man. Where is the police diagram outlining the exact position of everyone on the set when the shot was fired? What was the exact relationship between the woman and Baldwin? Very much doubt any of these questions or facts will be answered by the New Mexico police who are controlled by Democratic pols after “thoroughly” investigating a shooting by Hollywood liberal icon Baldwin.

So, the firearm used in the shooting was a real firearm and not a “prop”(fake) gun.
