Matt Hutchins joined Latham as an associate this year. Earlier he was an in-house lawyer at an entertainment company and practiced at Kirkland & Ellis and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Hutchins told news outlets Friday that he had spoken with Baldwin and said the actor was supportive. He could not be immediately reached for comment. A Latham spokesperson declined to comment.
Halyna Hutchins was killed when Baldwin discharged a prop firearm on the set of his Western movie "Rust" in New Mexico. The Santa Fe Sheriff's Department said it is investigating the incident, which also left the film's director, Joel Souza, injured.
Baldwin posted on social media Friday that he was in shock, writing, "My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna."
Hutchins, 42, who was originally from Ukraine and grew up on a Soviet military base in the Arctic Circle, once worked as an investigative reporter in Europe, according to her website.

people walked off the set. If they had concerns about safety,
= = =
I am curious about what scenes were shot (no pun) previous to this one that had everyone concerned about safety.
Must have been multiple, and blatant.
And the ‘film’ should be available.
And the walk-offs should be willing to talk.
That’s big problem for Baldwin. He is going to be hit with the mother of all civil lawsuits even if he avoids criminal charges.
A blank?
It’s been reported both ways.
A through-and-through in the meaty part of a shoulder followed by a center mass on the person behind could certainly do it.
But not with the as originally reported blank.
Cant answer that. Not a gun expert. Director was behind. It was a live round..what constitutes the definition of live in this context has not been exactly explained .
Oops!!!!
Yeah, and they’re busier that a cat covering schtuff on a tin roof (to borrow a slightly cleaned up saying my dad used to use, he’s been gone ten years today) trying to cover for that piece of schiff AB.
Lie, misstate, redefine terms, divert, distract, excuse...
Faux was reporting the gun went off. All by itself, apparently.
Live round. Passed through the cinematographer, struck the director. The director’s wound was minor, he’s already been released from the hospital.

The Husband is part of a big time super powerful law firm - this is going to be settled quietly behind the scenes.
Supposedly the unionized stagehands had walked off the set and Baldwin had then replaced them with local hires. Did the union guys check to make sure that that gun wasn’t loaded before they walked off?
The woman was shot in the stomach. Likely bled out. A bullet would easily pass through a slender person.
Thanks for the clarification. It’s been quite the day, and I haven’t been able to get, let alone stay, caught up.
If he shot actors during rehearsal using a gun he believed was loaded with blanks he could blame others. But how does he explain shooting non-actors? Even if he blamed others for using live rounds it doesn't explain why he shot non-actors. Why was he pointing a gun and shooting at non-actors? Was that part of the rehearsal? Was he rehearsing the scene with the cinematographer?
Arlen Specter, is that you?
Manslaughter and reckless endangerment for the shooter, criminal negligence for the producer and armorer, and anyone else who handled the firearm.
Investigation into chain of custody of the firearm on the set.
Was the firearm legally possessed? Was it a straw purchase? Who purchased and supplied the live ammo?
This is just a start.
“Supposedly the unionized stagehands had walked off the set and Baldwin had then replaced them with local hires. Did the union guys check to make sure that that gun wasn’t loaded before they walked off?”
I have a slight variation on this scenario. Were the Union guys, some of whom can be real thugs in their own right, (mafia-like) really PO’d at Alec Baldwin who is a big pig (his daughter was the little pig, remember), enough so as to set him up?
Could one of his disgruntled union employees have loaded a live bullet into the chamber of the gun hoping for an incident, to prove how Baldwin wasn’t paying enough attention to safety? Or loaded a live bullet in the gun just for revenge against Baldwin as he is such a jerk?
Shifting between major firms isn’t uncommon, and outplacing from a major firm to a major client of a senior associate who isn’t going to make partner has been going on for years.
But 3 different corporate jobs totalling less than a year isn’t a good sign. And 10 or 11 years out should be time to make partner - or not.
For M&A, a few years at government pay at the FTC or DOJ would look good on the resume, but he might not have been able to afford the pay cut.
K&E and SASMF are different firms.
Great post!
Unless the fix is in, which it probably is, Baldwin will face negligent homicide charges.
