Labor trouble had been brewing for days on the dusty set at the Bonanza Creek Ranch near Santa Fe.
The cinematographer who was accidentally killed, Halyna Hutchins, had been advocating for safer conditions for her team, said one crew member who was on the set.
As the camera crew — members of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees — spent about an hour assembling their gear at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, several nonunion crew members showed up to replace them, the knowledgeable person said.
A member of the producer staff then ordered the union members to leave the set. She said if they didn’t leave, the producers would call security to remove them.
“Corners were being cut — and they brought in nonunion people so they could continue shooting,” the knowledgeable person said.
There were two misfires on the prop gun on Saturday and one the previous week, the person said, adding “there was a serious lack of safety meetings on this set.”
The shooting occurred about six hours after the union camera crew left.
Baldwin, the film’s star who also served as a producer on the film, was apparently rehearsing a scene outside the church of the Bonzana Creek Ranch set...
The scene involved a gun fight that began in the church, and then Baldwin’s character was supposed to back out of the church, according to production notes obtained by The Times. It was the 12th day of a 21-day shoot.

Ooh, the plot thickens?

Damn. Could well be a disgruntled/replaced union member sticking a live round in that gun deliberately.
Well, how do you like them apples? Union sabotage and violence? Nah, not possible.
Maybe a union member put a hot round in before leaving.
From the article -
“The cinematographer who was accidentally killed, Halyna Hutchins, had been advocating for safer conditions for her team, said one crew member who was on the set.”
Very interesting!
Why wasn’t Baldwin arrested immediately on suspicion of homicide. Also why wasn’t he forced to give urine and blood samples for drugs and alcohol analysis?
Why have “The Movies” and TV just eschewed the use of guns on screen all together?
“For the children”.....
They are apparently addicted to making money from gun “play”.

Baldwin has a long history of anger issues.
Wouldn’t be surprised in nobody likes working with him.
Not disputing any allegations just take it with a grain of salt. The members of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees voted to strike last month. They did reach a tentative agreement but someone may be seeking some PR leverage.
I saw the photos of Alec Baldwin on the set, those were obviously put out by studio/actor PR “fixers” trying to shape the reaction to the story.
Yep. My first thought. It damm well could be. He probably thought it would be a good “joke”.
I don’t know what kind of blanks they use, but outside of putting in contact with the body I can’t see how it could cause a fatal injury. Had to be a live round.
Certainly, Mr. Baldwin’s kind and generous nature didn’t play a part.
Lock him up.
This scenario, where a stage gun kills an actor, has been used in many TV crime shows. Hopefully a finger print is on the casing.
Why did Baldwin pull the trigger while rehearsing the scene?
There were two misfires on the prop gun on Saturday and one the previous week, the person said, adding “there was a serious lack of safety meetings on this set.”
And what did the “producer” do about it?
