MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — Betty Lynn, the film and television actor who was best known for her role as Barney Fife’s sweetheart Thelma Lou on “The Andy Griffith Show,” has died. She was 95.
Lynn died peacefully Saturday after a brief illness, The Andy Griffith Museum in Mount Airy, North Carolina, announced in a statement.
Lynn appeared as Thelma Lou on the show from 1961 until 1966. She reprised her role in the made-for-TV movie “Return to Mayberry,” in which Thelma Lou and Barney got married.

In 1944, she started performing as a part of USO Camp Shows.

Barney was a moron for not putting a ring on her finger.
IIRC, they got married in the movie sequel..........
Maybe that is why “Aunt Bea” did not like Andy, the person.
I often wonder what was behind that kind of behavior. Just a massive ego? I read about Andy’s behavior here previously on free republic and was surprised because his image was so totally different.
My friend knew Andy Griffith back in the day and said he had the foulest mouth of all the men in Hollywood. (Of all the woman, it was Suzanne Pleshette.)
“his image was so totally different.”
The same applies to Michael Landon, a philandering pig, who dumped his wives to “move up” to younger, prettier wives and start new families with them. And many affairs.
His image was so totally different with the shows he did.
I hadn’t realized his philandering ways, although I remember reading about him having a cocaine problem, so I guess this shouldn’t surprise me either. That guy who used to play Grizzly Adams had cocaine issues too. I don’t even know if that actor is alive anymore.
A woman from my hometown was an executive private chef to the stars and Hollywood big wigs for 25+ years. She retired and came home to small town Western appalachia due to failing health.
She said most of the stars were great to work for. Most were very polite and friendly towards her though some were nightmares.
She also said many are conservative but have to hide it. She would go to their house and Fox news was always on or there would be RNC mail etc on the countertop etc.
interesting to know! She sounds like she had an interesting life in many respects.
When I was a kid, I used to wonder what the heck Thelma saw in Barney!.................

Maybe Barney had a little Milton Berle in him, if you know what I mean? ;-P
“why TV can’t be made like that now:
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$...........”
It can again and would make..$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.. Actually I just read that an original Big Wig of the Hallmark channel is going to reboot a new channel with wholesome content.
Starring Lori Laughlin?.......................
