I had a pretty good verizon flip phone for years.
Never used it for anything other than phone calls even though it could do things that 'smart phones' could do at the time.
The phone is/was around 12-15 years old.
Well, a friend gave me one of those 'new fangled', flat screen kind of phones and I'm learning to use it for more than calls. yaaay!
Problem is .. It's old and slow as molasses and the battery drains in just a couple of hours when browsing the net!
I have been looking at a Moto G7 Optimo Maxx that looks pretty darn good ... compared against the phone I have now, a TCL A501DL that appears to be ancient too!
The Moto can be bought for $149.00.
If you cell phone savvy folks can find a better deal or a better phone for under $200.00 .. or give me your thoughts on the moto .. I'd surely be appreciative :silly:
Heck, I may even give ya a call some day .. or not!โบ
Thanks
I like the Moto. First thing you must do is get a case and screen protector. I dropped mine in the car 3 or 4 times before finding out how slippery they are. They seem to always land on a corner of the phone. There are videos on how to put the screen protector on without bubbles and lint.
But the very name “TracFone” is rather too much on the nose, isn’t it?
Flip phone from TracFone at Walmart.
I bought a Tracfone couple of years ago .... Android LG with 4G. It’s great - suits my needs. I spend $20 every 3 months for talk/text/data- don’t need the ‘unlimited’ plan. Occasionally, I’ll need more texts or data (on a trip & using maps/directions, etc.). I probably text more than talk or anything else - I think I pay $5 for 1,000 texts if I run low. So $80/year for basic service with maybe another $30-50 if I need xtras. Cheap service, no contracts. Service is actually provided to Tracfone in my area by Verizon. At home, I’m on internet via Wi-Fi, so no mobile data used.
My folks have flip phones from Tracfone, mostly for emergency use.
My Droid only costs me $50. Better than a loser $1000 Iphone.
The Samsung XCover Pro is an excellent phone, but still a little pricey. It has a replaceable battery. If you get a cell which has to be disassembled to replace the battery, you are asking for trouble. Samsung 6 or 7 are good. Moto G6 and 7 are good. Best wishes.
I have the same phone/plan as you and am very happy with it.
This still works good for me. When my cable modem or power goes out from time to time, I still have access to the internet to find out what's going on. That is the only reason I would have a smartphone vs a flip phone. I think they give you 50MB every month that accumulates every month if not used. About 8 bucks a month altogether. An extra gigabyte was 10 bucks that I bought once.
If you made it this far without one like I did, just get something cheap and easily returnable would be my advice.
I know little about such. Still on a landline.
You’re doing it backwards, choose your carrier first. Recommend Visible, which runs on the Verizon network, $25 a month total, including all fees and taxes for unlimited data and the best network. See what phones they may be offering or contact them to make sure any phone you are looking is supported. Users love Visible.
Nice, no landlines at my house without going to Comcast, $50 a month, plus other services. Get a Samsung Galaxy s9 lightly used or refurbished. I got good service from an S7 plus, got it for 240 about 2 years ago. I guess it would be about that now... Samsungs are good phones.
Take a look at tracfone
I’ve had the Moto G7 Optimo for 2 years. Happy with it.
I thought with graphene in all of our bodies we won’t need phones once the 5G is turned on.
3G has been gone here for a couple years at least.
iPhones are gay.

The G7 is an excellent phone. Motorola is on the ball.
Make sure you buy a protective case that snaps on the phone as they are very slippery and a belt holster and usb charging cable and multiple usb-c port adapter.

I own a Samsung S10 that I recently bought for $249 last August at Amazon. I have a LG G6 Plus as a backup phone. No issues with either at all.
I just bought my sister a LG G7 ThinQ 6.1in LM-G710TM for $139

The one she had has a damaged usb port when she yanked on the usb cable while charging...... I bought repair parts for $21 for her plus a cell phone repair kit to heat up the glue so she can pry apart the device.
unfortunatwly not every carrier supports this
my mom had to get a new phone and i suggested this one for her but she said this wasn’t an option for whoever she uses
