5. Hanging on the Telephone (1978) Sometimes, a song takes a while to find its ideal singer. The original of Hanging on the Telephone, a 1976 single by LA powerpop band the Nerves, is pretty good, but Harry’s commanding performance owns the song, while Blondie’s arrangement is louder, brasher, tighter and tougher: the stuff of which classics are made.

"...the movie Videodrome."

Always the first thing I think of when I hear Blondie. Sad.

Fantastic post. Fantastic music. Thanks for posting.

Some people here are posting very strong negative comments, yet they think that Blondie was a person. “she”

Where is X-Offender? I thought it would be #1.

Definitely better than Heart of Glass, IMO.

I’ve seen them twice. Once in their earlier days (early 80s) and again in 2009 with Devo opening.

Both times, they were clean, tight and high energy. Great shows.

Saw her at the Starwood in the late 70’s, she was warmup for the Soft White Underbellies.

Deborah Harry was also very good in the 1989 season 2 arc of the TV show Wise Guy. Episodes 13 - 15 featured Harry, along with Glenn Frey.

This was 10 years after the release of Parallel Lines.

I did a driving trip to Redlands from Texas in ‘79.

Cool stuff on the radio there.
