As they reissue their 1981 festive EP Yuletide Throwdown, we rate the best of the New York band who strutted through punk, disco and pop with absolute cool
5. Hanging on the Telephone (1978) Sometimes, a song takes a while to find its ideal singer. The original of Hanging on the Telephone, a 1976 single by LA powerpop band the Nerves, is pretty good, but Harry’s commanding performance owns the song, while Blondie’s arrangement is louder, brasher, tighter and tougher: the stuff of which classics are made.

I have completely lost track of time. I would have guessed Deborah Harry to be around 60 years old. She’s 76.

If you want a laugh, go check out the hippie folk singer band that Debbie Harry was in before Blondie.

Story about Seems the TV show “WKRP in Cincinnati” helped make it a hit by playing it for the first time anywhere. Turns out they were not supposed to play it for another couple of weeks. It was just fine for them to show the album cover on air but there were strict release rules on when they could play any song off of that album. They just grabbed the first record off the stack and it happened to be “Heart of Glass.”

"One Way or Another" was the stalker song before the Police and "Every Breath You Take".

I am like you. Heart of Glass is all I recall and it wasnt a real favorite
I have become a collector or older classic rock CDs, music I may have heard but didn't fawn over as a kid I am gaining new appreciation for. Sometimes I will buy an album for one song and find I really missed many good tunes from the artist, while other times it turns out they really were a one hit band (i.e. Brandy - Looking Glass).

I did too. Interestingly, it had a disco beat&tempo when they were suppose to be the new alternative to disco. Rapture was okay.

To all the haters... You are just proving you are OLD FARTS.
Listen, I am a fan of many different genres, love old love songs, musicals, broadway etc., but I also like unique tunes.
Blondie was amazing! Dreaming was one of my favorites...
I graduated in 1981 from High School, so maybe it is just a generational thing.
Pretenders were great as well! Brass in pocket.

I didn’t like “The Tide is High.” I would replace that one with “Maria.”

Did she even have 20 songs? “Blondie” was the name of the group. Debbie Harry is their blond lead singer.
