A shocking new poll from the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia reveals that over half of Trump voters surveyed, and 41% of Biden voters, are in favor of blue and/or red states seceding from the union. Yeah, it’s gotten that bad.
The idea that the nation’s political divide has become so toxic that we should prepare from some sort of “national divorce” has largely been left to clever thought experiments best left for dinner parties and ironically detached columns. However, we’ve now arrived at a point where more than half of Trump voters “somewhat agree” that the time for secession is nigh.
From the Center for Politics report:
Significant numbers of both Trump and Biden voters show a willingness to consider violating democratic tendencies and norms if needed to serve their priorities. Roughly 2 in 10 Trump and Biden voters strongly agree it would be better if a “President could take needed actions without being constrained by Congress or courts,” and roughly 4 in 10 (41%) of Biden and half (52%) of Trump voters at least somewhat agree that it’s time to split the country, favoring blue/red states seceding from the union.
The report continues by examining the broad political dissolution felt by members of both parties (emphasis mine.):
— On one hand, roughly 80% of Trump and Biden voters view democracy as preferable to any non-democratic kind of government.
— On the other hand, more than 6 in 10 Trump and Biden voters see America as less a representative democracy and more a system that is run by and rigged for the benefit of the wealthy.
— Overall, more than two-thirds support — and one-third strongly — emboldening and empowering strong leaders and taking the law into their own hands when it comes to dealing with people or groups they view as dangerous.
— And their willingness to consider violating democratic tendencies and norms extends beyond the hypothetical and to a dangerous and alarming finding: Roughly 2 in 10 Trump and Biden voters — or more than 31 million Americans — strongly agree it would be better if a “President could take needed actions without being constrained by Congress or courts” (as extrapolated from the results of this survey). Roughly 4 in 10 (41%) of Biden and half (52%) of Trump voters at least somewhat agree that it’s time to split the country, favoring blue/red states seceding from the union.
A shocking YouGov poll in June found that 66% of Republicans in southern states want to secede from the United States. That survey, which was done in conjunction with BrightLineWatch, looked at the current political climate in America. The most stunning question concerned support or opposition for the state in which respondents lived in “seceding from the United States to join a new union with [list of states in new union]?”
President Joe Biden largely ran on a platform of reunification, and despite an effective six first months of largely positive approval ratings, recent missteps in Afghanistan, and a resurgence of Covid infections, which is — ironically, largely due to a large percentage of Trump supporters refusal to get a vaccine — have led to his approval being underwater.
This is just political masturbation.
We can’t even make school boards work. Conservatives suck at enemy identification. We’ve made this mess by feeding hoards of tapeworms with our taxes. People vote for “safety nets” which mean crooked government and then act all surprised that government is crooks.
If you’re not even going to clean up the mess in your own state, then talk of secession is just an escapist fantasy.
Turnabout is fair play.
All the Yankee absolutists on FR go on with that constant refrain. Not just that “Confederacy = slavery = evil = 100% wrong”, but that “secession is unconstitutional” and was “proven” because Yankees won.
I’ve been saying all along the best conclusion is to agree on secession and split it up. Let the commies develop their paradise while we live in peace (including, no riots!).
Not fond of “Dem vs Rep states, that would be too convoluted. More of an agreement on the geographical split.

Therein lies just one of many problems. The major cities are democrat controlled. The dem infestation runs deep. Few if any politicians are calling for secession. Conservatives can’t even control a party much less a country. It is a pipe dream.
We’d have to move.
But I prefer agreement on splitting up the country geometrically.
Some will have to move. Big deal. Whining about that when millions of people left on ships across oceans to come here is spoiled.
Texas could and should secede.
Shows how all that unconstitutional welfare largesse makes it impossible also to extricate oneself from the mess, eh? Was that by design? Or just a fortunate side effect for our masters?
Conservatives will have to FIGHT their way to a ‘divorce’ as the main driver for Leftists now is to PUNISH conservatives for wanting to keep the country as it is. And it’s hard to punish people when they are part of another country...so they will do everything in their power (and they have a lot of power now) to PREVENT states like Texas from leaving...like it not.

Look at the “county” electoral map.
It’s a sea of red, with a few splotches of blue thrown in, overwhelmingly in the metro areas of the country.
And it’s my guess that most of those “red” areas conduct their elections on the up-and-up, unlike the big cities.
I’ve heard proposals for “city states” talked about sometimes.
In such proposals, New York City, and its suburban counties, would become a separate state.
The same could happen with Los Angeles County becoming its own state. And Cook County with Chicago being its own state.
The argument is that these places have more population than many other states. And politically, if these cities were no longer part of the states they dominate, then the remainder of those states would be able to elect more conservatives to office.
Just like they are leaving the Big 12 for the SEC.
You are absolutely correct. There are no blue states only blue cities that control states that would otherwise be red. And honestly I believe most blue cities are blue due to rampant fraud. Fix the fraud and you fix the country.
I have often thought the electoral college should extended down to county level. This would give the massive land area of say CA a chance at representation outside of LA and SF. The electoral college should apply to all voting inside the state as well. Gun control? Put it to the people with each county acting like a state in an electoral system. These blue states and all their nonsensical rules would disappear.
What is the Federal Bureaucracy (aka Deep State)? It is the $3 trillion 80%+ unconstitutional portion of the federal government making the feds essentially totalitarian.
Let’s not say that Biden is “right” because he chooses to advance the utter tyranny of the feds.
Let’s do whatever we can to OVERTURN the fraudulent 2020 election, dismantle the unconstitutional portion of the feds, and RESTORE our Free Constitutional Republic.
No need really. Remove the seditionists and subversives from social media, break up their monopolies and the problem will take care of itself in short order.

The key to their takeover was conquering the education system. They brainwash our children into hating the country and turn them out like virus. Until this is changed there can be no victory.
we are not there yet. the first candidate that runs on a secession platform and wins will be the opening shot.

OK. And the other thing is, we don’t need to have it finish NOW. It could all be set up in treaty to gradually move away, or at least a date well in the future by which every logistical government affairs with individuals and states, etc, has to be complete.
