Durham’s indictment of Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussman offers hope that bigger fish may be reeled in

It's not yet time to break out the champagne, but cautious optimism seems warranted. The elements for conspiracy charges against the really big names are lined up.

I am cautiously optimistic over the indictment handed down yesterday, accusing attorney Michael Sussaman, then of Perkins Coie, representing the Hillary Clinton campaign, of lying to the FBI. It has been very easy to despair that anything would ever come of Durham’s Special Counsel probe, especially after the slap on the wrist delivered to Kevin Clinesmith, an FBI lawyer who lied to a court by changing evidence 180 degrees in order to facilitate a FISA warrant extension. For an officer of the court to lie to a court ought to be a career-ending event, for without integrity, the judicial system falters. But Clinesmith never spent a night in jail and has been readmitted to the bar. Durham asked for six months, but Judge James Boasberg thought otherwise.

Writers whom I respect, such as Don Surber and John Hinderaker make me look Pollyanna-ish. Surber: “I am unexcited because none of the co-conspirators -- Hillary, Obama, Comey, and the media -- were indicted.” Hinderaker: “Durham harvests more small potatoes.”

But what gives me hope is the possibility of conspiracy charges developing. The statute of limitations on lying to the FBI was about to expire, so Durham’s team had to indict now, even before other evidence might be ready to indict others or bring other charges against Sussman. Retired FBI special agent Mark Wauck, who has graciously given me permission to quote his work beyond fair use limits, is optimistic:

John Durham’s indictment of Michael Sussmann has been a long time coming, but it doesn’t disappoint. The indictment is 27 terse pages long, dense with documentation of legal services billing and communications regarding technical internet matters.

I won’t be holding my breath. Those with no conscience and no ethics don’t suddenly develop them spontaneously.

I’ve heard that the statute of limitations runs out this very weekend. I’m not sure Sussman can lead to anything. He’s it. He’s all we get.

Agreed. The DC elites are above the law. If Durham got close to busting Hillary, people will start dying.

How do we know this particular Clinton lawyer, won’t commit arkancide?

Why on earth would he be killed? This minnow will get the same harsh treatment Kevin Klinesmith got, one f’n year of probation. You can’t flip a guy with that kind of threat. The Barr coverup is now complete, the investigation over. The result is what everyone excluding hope porn fools knew the result would be, total whitewash.

“The statute of limitations on lying to the FBI was about to expire,...”

~~~
So they’re going to throw in in the klink indefinitely, and even put in him isolation much of the time?
No?
Must because he isn’t a retired army general and national security adviser just doing his job.
No?
Must be because he wasn’t lying a political dissident in his own land.
No?
He is a political operative working on campaigns and he lied to the FBI?
Ones brain would explode if the hypocrisy and duplicity of our justice system wasn’t already normalized.
Agreed, it’s all Kabuki theater. Nothing happened in the past, nothing will happen now, and nothing will happen in the future.
.
One can see Durham had no urgency.
He also hired Never Trumpers and put them in charge.
I think this is a compromise to doing absolutely nothing, where Justice can avoid the obvious criticism of a Fake Investigation .
You see there were no 3:00 raids (with CNN) of Lawyer’s offices and homes.
.
I’ve heard that the statute of limitations runs out this very weekend...
Statute of Lims runs out only for Sussman. You can bet your bippies (whatever that is) that all his cohorts are looking at the calendar for their SOLs.
We're watching dominoes, folks.
John Durham’s indictment of Michael Sussmann has been a long time coming...
So long, in fact, the statute of limitations now kicks in and all the big fish get away scot free.
Most of us have never heard of Sussman before, but after reading much of what's in the indictment, it's clear he played a key role in instigating the Trump/Russia collusion fraud. He was a mover/shaker in this sordid affair. Bigger question is whose orders was he following?
At this point, Sussman has these pathways, maybe more:
1) Cooperate with Durham, turn over evidence leading to the downfall of bigger fish and receive leniency. Least likely path, IMHO (but if there is anyone who could present mountains of evidence, it is Sussman.)
2) Fight it in court, lose, and do his time without ratting. Like Webb Hubbell did, he will "roll over for Hillary".
3) Fight it in court, win, and go home. All his defense team needs to do is find at least one loyal Democrat to sit on the jury. Or find a corrupt Emmitt Sullivan type "judge". Loyal Dems always place party above all else and will never convict one of their own.
4) Commit suicide (either real or assisted)
Hoping for (1), but expecting (3) or (4)
What the hell are you smoking? This minnow has one option. He will take the plea deal with the one year probation just like Clinesmith did. Clinesmith is done with justice system, is a free man and hero of the left. God only knows how much cash he and his family has collected or will collect. It will be the exact same with this guy. Barr’s coverup is complete. The “investigation” is OVER.
