Australia was once a magnet for Hollywood filmmakers hoping to escape America's Covid crisis.

But the country's filmmaking Golden Age has come to an end, as productions jump ship due to Australia's strict lockdowns and border closures.

According to industry bible Variety, Australia's appeal has 'waned' among Hollywood producers in recent months due to the country's low vaccination rate and the uncontrollable spread of the Delta variant.

While filming is technically considered 'essential work' in Australia, many productions have struggled to navigate complicated health regulations and border closures.

Draconian lockdowns have driven Hollywood away from Australia. Guess their government doesn't care if their film and television industry is destroyed.

Tourism has to be well down as well. Some will decide to never go. You might not be able to get back.

Hollywood is suffering? I now have mixed feelings about the lockdowns in Australia.

Down? It’s non existent. Thousands of Australians have even been stuck abroad for a year and the country isn’t letting them come home. And they’re citizens!

I have a relatively well known former actor buddy (whose work most Freepers are likely familiar with) who has been locked down with his family for two months. I asked him how he was coming along and he just sucks it up and refuses to complain. He feels it to be a patriotic duty. (I sense that he’s just afraid of losing his daytime job...)

Ironically, Australia would now be the perfect location for shooting those empty city scenes at the end of the movie “On the Beach”

Wow, glad I saw NSW when I did many years ago. Wonderful people and amazing things to do in Cairns.

It’s terrible the Scamdemic is disallowing tourism and even the return of homeward-bound Aussies.

these productions are rarely mentioned by FakeNewsMSM in Australia, because it would only make people even angrier that these thousands of people are considered “essential workers”, while they are locked down:

Screen Australia: The Upcoming Production Report is a list of scripted and documentary titles that are in pre-production, production or post-production in Australia. The Report includes both Australian titles and foreign titles filming in Australia.

Please note that due to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic, some production schedules may only be indicative at this point in time.

one of the rare times the MSM took note of the outrage:

3 May 2021: Daily Mail UK: Busy beachside main street in Melbourne to shut down so a US TV show can be filmed for six months
Bay Street, in Port Melbourne, closed from midnight on Monday to Wednesday
Only pedestrians will be able to access street while filming begins for TV show
‘La Brea’ is about a family that becomes separated by a sinkhole in California
Businesses say they are fearful the closure will impact trading in the area
By AIDAN WONDRACZ
The very busy Bay Street in upmarket Port Melbourne will be partially closed to the public so a hit new US TV show can begin filming there for six months.

Cars will not be allowed to drive down Bay Street between Beach and Graham streets when it is closed at midnight on Monday.

Only pedestrians will be able to access it as production begins on the series ‘La Brea’...

Several business owners say they are fearful the temporary closure of the street will impact their trading.
Platinum Cosmetics’ Jodee Affleck said two clients have already cancelled their appointments, 7 News reported...

The TV series is being produced by NBC and will take six months to film...
