Todd Garrison, the police chief in North Port, said no criminality is suspected at this time. No physical search teams are currently on the ground as investigators are working to narrow down areas to investigate, he said. "We have resources and law enforcement partners that are out in the field following up tips and leads but as far as a grid search right now, we're still trying to narrow down geographic areas," he said in a news conference Thursday.
Police have said her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, has refused to speak with law enforcement but Garrison said investigators are solely focused on finding Petito. "We share the frustration with the world right now. Two people went on a trip, one person returned and that person that returned isn't providing us with any information," Garrison said. "My focus isn't to bring Brian in right now. My focus is to find Gabby."
Her father, Joe Petito, asked the public to come forward with any information that could help investigators. "I'm asking for help from the parents of Brian and I'm asking for the help of the family members and friends of the Laundrie family as well," Petito said. "Whatever you can do to make sure my daughter comes home, I'm asking for that help. There is nothing else that matters to me now."

Lots, and lots, and lots of wide open spaces in Utah.
maybe they got into a fight, she stormed off, waiting for him to come get her. 22 year old girl, that could happen.
Maybe he did look, could not find her, and took off.
and as for her being medicated and NOT taking the meds, that feeds right into my “dippy” description.
Altho that comes from her beau, not her parents, so who knows if she is on meds?
I read too much true crime. Sorry.
Whoa - looks ugly.
I suppose we will eventually find out.
He could have killed her.
However she also may be in hiding to screw him over.
mascara
Actually, he didn’t have to leave her body in Utah. He could have kept her body in the back of the van and disposed of it in any state on his return to Florida. I guess it will depend on how much tech information the authorities will be able to discover and what route he took on his return.
The family received the last text which indicated there wouldn’t be any cell service in Yosemite, which was never a travel plan and hundreds of miles in the opposite direction of where they were supposed to go. The family doesn’t believe the text was from her.
Mascara doesn’t make bumps.
As a result I'd have no problem talking to cops if I had noting to hide.In fact,if I was being accused of a serious crime that I didn't do I'd *insist* on talking to them...and if I was put on trial I'd *insist* on testifying in my defense...just as "Andy" did in Shawshank Redemption
The key to being a convincing liar is having a *very* good memory.
yes it does
His actions make him look guilty now, but he sure comes across as a nice guy in that bodycam video. Just goes to show, you can never know.
look, he’s 23. when i was 23 i had 2 kids but these days he’s still (probably) immature and does not get his feet held to the fire about anything.
Could be they grated on each others last nerve in the van, maybe he did not give a rip what happened to her, he went home.
I’m not sticking up for his behavior, just saying maybe he did not kill her ( i realize leaving her in the desert did not help the cause)
You’re correct, we’ll find out if he talks.
It makes your face swell? Yikes!
crying
The bodycam video was from Aug. 12.
Those two women were last seen alive on Aug. 13.
So, those murders happened later.
Who knows if this couple is involved? But, this case keeps getting stranger.
*** I have known a few young women with OCD and the disorder manifests itself such that they are barely able to leave home.***
OCD runs in my family, but only one person (a male) manifests it like that. It ranges from hoarding to counting things over and over to obsessing about details that seem important to the individual but not much to others. One is a compulsive liar.
I think you have over-generalized this condition. It’s more common than you think.
Thinking Throg was smelling kind of ripe 24/7/365 his own self...but you made agood point.
Police have said her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, has refused to speak with law enforcement
This is very bizarre behavior. If you were on vacation with a loved one, and she disappears, would you just return home as if everything were normal?
If you lost track of a loved one on vacation, and she’s missing, wouldn’t you contact law enforcement yourself, and fully cooperate, telling them the last time you saw her; did she say she was going for a walk, did she say she was going to a store to pick up some things and never returned to their hotel — anything at all???
His behavior is really strange.
