All stores in my area have been out of NAC all week. Yesterday one told me that FDA has finally cracked down. Supply line choked off. I confirmed this with another store today. Amazon caved back in May, but the supplement industry was holding out. Looks like that has ended.
For those of you who don’t know, NAC was introduced as a drug in the 60s. It was originally used as an expectorant for bronchial phlegm. It is also used for liver detox in Tylenol overdose.
I’ve seen many Freepers post on the benefits for COVID-19 in the last year. Various studies have shown NAC usefulness in preventing and reducing severity of COVID-19. Thus, the need to crack down now, after 60 years of safe over-the-counter use. Can’t have anything that works on COVID-19!
I imagine it will still be available in the future, but only as a prescription. Perhaps America’s Front Line Doctors will prescribe it?

Why wouldn’t I just buy direct from Swanson? You get first notice of sales, etc., when you do.
i would suspect swanson is selling on ebay because they know a certain percentage of their customer base is on ebay and will buy from them on that platform, they may prefer doing it this way

Have plenty of NAC locally in several brands. I generally stick with NOW.

Don’t know about that as the local store was out a couple of weeks ago but as of this past weekend is fully stocked with multiple brands.
It is an amino acid N- is the nitrogen in the molecule, attached to an acetyl group to which the Amino Acid Cysteine (do not know which isomer L or R which would be mirror images of each other- is in NAC).
L-Cysteine may perform the same function and could hardly be banned as it is available in .... nature/diet.
N-Acetyl Cysteine. Used for over 60 years. It exists for the anti-phlegm indication by prescription as MucoMyst. See: drugs.com.
This really ticks me off the FDA driving the vax business by eliminating things which prevent covid infection and also treat it if one gets it. They tried to do this with Zinc back when Rush was adverting for the Zicam lozenges for colds (which may be viral, coronavirus colds).
It smells like permanent wave solution. We had a patient who had to take it after she od’d on Tylenol.
Thorne Supplements still has it. I just bought 360 capsules today.
I found the MedCram lectures on NAC by Dr. Roger Seheult to be most informative and illuminating on this topic. He gets into the molecular organic chemistry which can be daunting and hard to understand if you aren't trained in that area. But he incorporates a lot of higher-level information as well as a lot of research citation summaries that are understandable. If you had any inorganic chemistry, it is largely understandable. He is an excellent instructor and his videos are very professional...

NOW says they are not shipping NAC, but they will identify your local store that carries it.
If they have indeed quit shipping NAC, then I may have to go pick up a couple of more bottles. Like I stated earlier, the local vita store just received a shipment this past weekend. Looked to be about 6 cases.
I couldn't find any published research which showed any difference between the two chiral forms, nor could I find and difference in how they are manufactured. I suspect that if there is something distinct in the actual vitamins themselves, the right stereoisomer is just as effective as the left stereoisomer. If not and the N-Acetyl-cysteine is a mixture of the two and only the left is bio-chemically active, then the N-Acetyl-cysteine pills would still contain half N-Acetyl-l-cysteine. I would buy whichever is cheaper.
