I have complex sleep apnea which is a combination of obstructive and central (neurological) sleep apneas and have been using a BIPAP machine for 5 years, which is more like a respirator than a regular CPAP.
My initial sleep test indicated I stopped breathing 57 times in one hour - that number is currently down to 3 or 4. I get a solid 8 hours a night and it feels great. Loud snorers should get evaluated by a clinic.

I have been reading that the EPR function can turn cpap into a quasi bipap

I changed the settings on my machine and decided i couldnt deal with trying it yet

Very similar experience. Prior to the CPAP I forgot that you dream
when you sleep.

Have severe sleep apnea. Stopped breathing 26 times/hour as long as 43 seconds. Destroyed some relationships. Unable to tolerate CPAP.
Use an oral device that looks like a pair of dentures, pushes jaw down and out to open airways. Not to be confused with the cheap things you see on TV, this runs $2500+. Insurance covered 80%. Still the best $500 ever spent in my life. Look for Somnident. (way easier to carry on plane, too!).
Has prolonged my life and first time I ever dreamed! (REM sleep)
My dentist required a trachea connection and machine to sleep. His son actually did a procedure to break his jaw and rebuild jaw longer.
Avoid cutting/trimming procedures of tongue/throat/tonsils. Very painful and grows back in three+ years.
Hope this helps!
