The bad guys think he will. They know he has them, or know people have them who could have given them to him.
The bad guys take X action in response and implicate themselves because the good guys are anticipating they might try X and are ready to capture it through surveillance.
Thus, Lindell helped, knowingly. Or perhaps unknowingly— if he was going to release it but good guys took action at the last minute and told him not to go ahead, even if this action was to pretend to be bad guys and threaten him.
