Since the comparison was to California, that’s what I referenced. All states have different ways of raising the state revenues.
Some states charge higher property taxes than others.
Some charge higher sales taxes than others.
Some charge state income taxes where others do not.
Missouri charges personal property tax as well as state income tax.
Some do it all.

I know all states have different ways.......” I was just pointing out what WA has. We do have pretty high sales tax and property taxes though.
That personal property tax is evil! We were looking at Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, Kentucky. It would have cost us tens of thousands more dollars a year just because of the personal property tax. And none of the other taxes were that much cheaper to offset it.
