The original piece from the SUN:
“the end they’d say what they planned to sell the item for at like a 2000% profit”
You sure your not thinking of “Pawn Stars”?
Now THOSE GUYS are CROOKED IMO
They are the Abbot and Costello of garage sales.
I can’t stand “American pickers”. That show is more scripted and phony than even “Pawn Stars”.
Lets not forget something no one talks about on these reality shows.....I’m pretty sure they’re getting paid something by the channel....and I suspect its considerable.
Having a bad back wouldn’t be useful when you’re ‘picking’ up heavy stuff while being a ‘Picker’... Too bad there isn’t compo for self-employed people.
meh i don’t care to watch her either- too much of a ‘oooh look at me’ attention seeker- both with her tattoos and personality had an in-law like that- and didn’t care for her either-
“Insofar as television salary, Wolfe makes an astounding $500,000 dollars per season, and Fritz makes a little less at $300,000 dollars per season.”
I think that’s why Frank was so lazy with his online presence and brick and morter store which are both virtually dead. Maybe being off the show will jumpstart him into starting a new venture.
They sometimes “picked” some interesting stuff, but there’s no way the profits they showed would even come close to the costs of driving around finding them.
True and Mike says 90% of his sales are clothing, not the stuff they find. He is bascially in the clothing business now selling t-shirts.
“According to Living 101, his Antique Archaeology store has become something of a merchandising juggernaut over the past decade, thanks to the popularity of the television show. “Ninety percent of our sales are clothing, so all of a sudden I’m in the clothing business,” Wolfe said, citing the ever-changing landscape of his business and the importance of keeping a finger on the pulse of what consumers want. His American-made clothing brand, Two Lanes, is proving equally lucrative, and might be headed to your local department store in the near future.”
i watched alaska gold show, and they had two peeps on there that ‘got into a fight’ at a bar- the one fella took a glass, punched it towards the face of the other fella, and you could clearly hear glass break as though it smashed i nthe fella’s face- I thought “Nope- that didn’t just happen”, so i rewound it, and went frame by frame, and sure enough the glass never broke, and the punch never even ame close to the other fella’s face- i went frame by frame through all the ‘punches’ and NONE of them even came close to connecting- but because of the camera angles, and fast movements, it looked like they were-
I also noted that noone got arrested either after the ‘fight’ in today’s age- fights end up in arrests, especially if they were viewed on TV because the evince is right there-
So i went on the homepage of the show- signed yup and pointed out that the sound effects were fake without revealing that i had gone through it frame by frame— The producers or whoever vehemently denied it- then i said “Stop the nonsense- i went through it frame by frame- the show is faked- scripted- The glass never broke, but you folks dubbed in a breaking glass sound to make i t appear that the fella smashed it in vernon’s face-”
They didn’t like hearing that at all- and stopped responding-
Also note how when ‘accidents’ happen, there is always the right camera angle to catch it all- with the cameras mounted in weird odd places, like right next to the drive shaft to show it bending, or some other such weird spot where an ‘accident’ just happens to happen on cue-
Even on shows like the gator hunters- they will show soemoen ‘falling i n the water’, then the scary music will start, and they show a gator swimming like it’s headed right for the person i n the water only problem is the two scenes are completely different- like one shot the water will be mud brown, and completely still, while the gator is swimming in what is a clear river water-
lots of nonsense like that happens in these ‘reality’ shows-
so, is Frank Fritz the rolly-polly one or the tall skinny abrasive, obnoxious one?
Couple of points.
I read where Frank is going through a divorce. So it may make sense to reduce his projected income.
He married late, so one wonders whether his wife just married him for his money. His wife looked better than you would have expected for someone like him.
Reminds me somewhat of the guy fixing stuff for Pawn Stars getting his own show and quickly marrying someone about 40 to 45 who looked and dressed like an old cocktail waitress and putting her on the show in outfits she was too old to be wearing. Being on TV attracts a lot of flies. Many men, and women, can’t handle it.
Very early in the show, they were buying things really cheap and making a killing. I recall them buying an old saddle for $20 from an 80-90 year old guy then saying it was worth $1,500. People were really upset with them taking advantage of the old guy. After that they started paying 50 to 60% of the market rate (at least the items shown on the show). I wonder what they pay on items not shown. I gather they have a couple of stores.
I haven’t watched in a few years so I don’t know where they are on the show.
In Korea the show is called just “Pickers.”
These “reality” shows are all choreographed and fake. They get exposed from time to time.
The history channel is a joke. There hasn’t been any history on it for years. Just like Arts and Entertainment channel. There hasn’t been any of such on that either.
You’re right. Antique Archeology is Mike’s business. Frank was just along for the ride.
I thought that as well before I watched it. I thought it involved guitar players and the making of guitars. It's been awhile since I watched it. There is a same old, same old quality to it. Also, I thought Frank was a sort of abrasive guy, so the show will probably survive his loss.
I like when they are in some barn and walk right passed something they were eager to buy on another episode. But I like the show, even if fake. Now if you want fake fake, Pawn Stars!
Frank is single and never married. Mike, who is kicking Frank off, is going through the divorce. Keeping with your argument maybe Mike is trying to kick off the second higher earner to reduce the show’s budget.
Lol. You don’t enjoy the former roller derby queen?
