‘American Pickers’ star Frank Fritz says he hasn’t spoken to Mike Wolfe in two years: ‘That’s just how it is’ Frank Fritz confirmed his departure from the History Channel series

"American Pickers" star Frank Fritz is getting candid about his relationship with co-host Mike Wolfe.

The popular History Channel reality series, which premiered in 2010, chronicles the adventures of the pickers as they travel across the country in hopes of finding and rescuing prized objects with stories deeply rooted in American history. Danielle Colby provides much-needed assistance when the two minds find themselves in comedic binds along the way.

But the friendship between the beloved duo has been strained. Fritz recently told The Sun that he has left the series and is no longer in touch with Wolfe, 57.

"I haven’t talked to Mike in two years," the 55-year-old told the outlet. "He knew my back was messed up, but he didn’t call me up and ask how I was doing. That’s just how it is."

Fritz admitted that it would be difficult to "put the show on after not talking to somebody for two years."

"I think Mike wants to get his brother Robbie in there to replace me," Fritz claimed. "I don’t know why he’s behaving like that towards me. You couldn’t just stick two people in a van and get the chemistry you get from me and Mike. We’ve known each other for about 40 years. We can finish each other’s sentences. When everybody is getting along and there’s no drama, me and him are very good together."

“You just have to know which ones to buy”

That’s what’s so fascinating to me.
You have to be knowledgeable and have an eye for what is valuable.

A lot of stuff the layperson would think is junk is actually valuable....that and having a buyer already lined up helps.

Reality TV is scripted.

I recall a “reality” show that was on a number of years ago about these guys (and gals) who repossessed cars. In every episode, there would be a confrontation, some approaching violence, between the repo guys and the poor sap who failed to make payments. It seemed very suspicious to me at the time. I later read that the entire show was scripted and, essentially, fake.

History is a pay television network and flagship channel owned by A&E Networks, a joint venture between Hearst Communications and the Disney General Entertainment Content division of the Walt Disney Company.

And there you have it!

The value of an item is what someone will pay for it.
Until that it has no value.

Mike is dating some woman with looks so far above him it isnt even funny, at least it was on the cover of some fish wrap at the grocery checkout. The only reason I remember it is I thought... wealth buys quality trim.

“The value of an item is what someone will pay for it”

Yep but you have to start of with something desirable in the 1st place.

"Antiques roadshow is more interesting since you see more items and they are described."

If you ever get the chance to watch the UK's Antiques Roadshow, I highly recommend it. It's been on for over 42 years, and each week they visit a different venue, ie., great estates, gardens, abbeys, castles, etc. They also have WWI and WWII specials, and from time to time, items from the U.S. show up.

"Lovers Quarrel ?"

I watched it for 4 or 5 years, and turned it off. I couldn't stand Mike Wolfe's giggling. He sounded like a sissy.

Yeah, reality shows are all fake. I know antique dealers who Pawn Stars contacted to bring in their items. Both sides knew a deal wouldn’t be made, but they went through a fake negotiation so the show would have an interesting item on it. The Pawn Stars shop sells on eBay. Years ago I talked with the woman who was in charge of their eBay sales. Yet the Pawn Stars guys act like they’ve never looked up sales prices online. Someone will bring in a vintage toy and they’ll say they don’t know what it’s worth, they’ll bring in their expert friend down the street to look at it. In under a minute I can look up sold prices on ebay and other auction sites. And isn’t it amazing how their expert friends are always available at a moment’s notice. /sarc

I never liked the show. They both would act like they were being robbed in having to pay a price for something then at the end they’d say what they planned to sell the item for at like a 2000% profit. Nope never liked the show

” Antiques roadshow is more interesting...”

...absolutely. Pickers went the route of Pawn Stars. Fake.

“A lot of stuff the layperson would think is junk is actually valuable.”

I think it’s more often the other way around though - people usually think old stuff is automatically really valuable, simply because it’s old. Or “Rare” makes something valuable.

Trends change, too. Right now, for example, Coleman Lanterns took off pretty high. They all look (pretty much) the same to me, and have for about 100 years. They probably go for $10 or $20 tops in a yard sale. Or ... they did.

Apparently they are recently popular to collect in Japan, and Asia in general. So clean unfired 1950s lanterns say, in the box and with the papers and all the gee gaws might reach $2000 in bidding on that auction site.

It does take a sharp eye and a good knowledge base to separate the wheat from the chaff on that stuff. It’s a lot of work.
