Parents Canceled by Their Own Children
American Thinker ^ | 19 Jul, 2021 | Caryn Boddie

It was shocking to my husband and me that our children canceled us for being who and what we are.

It happened that, as I was thinking about writing about my husband and me being canceled by our own children six months ago — we have been agonizing about not being able to talk to them or see our grandson for all that time — a thought popped into my mind: blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

Weeks ago, while struggling with how to understand what has happened, I picked up a copy of Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals. Then I looked at a book by David Horowitz entitled Barack Obama's Rules for Revolution: The Alinsky Model. What I read convinced me that our family, more so our children, had been targeted. We, as a middle-class family who used to live together in the suburbs, were in the bull's eye.

Consider the last chapter of Rules, which was published in 1971. It is entitled "The Way Forward." Alinsky writes, "Organization for action will now and in the decade ahead center upon America's white middle class. That is where the power is[.] ... Large parts of the middle class, the 'silent majority,' must be activated[.]"

The left has been working on making the children of the middle class into radicals, turning them against their parents and their parents' values for fifty years now, in multiple generations. All the things we middle-class parents believed in and called good, our children now call bad and false, and more than bad and false, worthy of destruction, especially if we parents are Christian and conservative, and even more so if we are Trump-supporters. Our cancelation is the fruit of the left's strategy to remake America.

I’d have to blame the parents for piss poor upbringing.
Yes kids have a will of their own but in 90% of the cases, if the foundation is set they’ll be fine.
Both my kids are conservative, wasn’t easy but they learned. One joined the Army, married Army and the other is in DoD and all of the grandkids.. Even the 4 year old when he had to wear a mask in stores back in the People’s Republic of Maryland would run around saying “fricken RONA”, but they all respect the flag and country and we talk about scholl and they know a lot of the crap taught is BS.

My brother on the otherhand is a flaming BLM, Social Justice liberal. I canceled him 12 years ago after comments on my daughter joining the Army.

Mine would be very unhappy at the reading of my will.

If you have children....PRAY
This is truly demonic warfare.....

When your children listen to wrong voices.....PRAY

‘Bring up a child in the way he should go’.....
Don’t ever lose hope.....
....I’m saying this out of experience....

They are your children......no matter how ugly they act....(& yes you should set standards, limits).....LOVE THEM
Do not rush to cede them over to the dark side

‘Love covers a multitude of sins’

iIt was shocking to my husband and me that our children canceled us for being who and what we are. Happened to me. Both were indoctrinated by their universities.

Part of the price of "advanced education" at most American liberal arts colleges.

pity them for every thing they threw away.

I hear you. These radical leftist young adults especially should be pitied because all that anger can't be healthy. At an age when they should be enjoying everything life has to offer, they choose to be angry and unhappy, instead.

And they’ll do it stealth-like, like that whip-armed rage monster did to Gandalf the Grey. Well after the “fair fight” contest was over.

“But the parents here were absolutely adamant about one thing, come hell or high water: high school SPORTS would not be disrupted in any way.”

I agree, the battle has been long lost. After reading up on what our schools were doing even DECADES AGO, I vowed to never send my kids to those institutions, and never did. Needless to say my kids came out fine, loving the country and loving Trump. But, although unconfirmed, there are rumors that even some FReepers STILL send their kids to public schools, while most other people who think they are conservative, even voting for Trump, still send their kids to a bunch of America-hating Leftists to get ‘educated’...and then can’t understand why their kids hate the country so much.

Hopeless, sadly. It’s time to look to other countries - at least for my (now-adult) kids. Conservatives had at least 50 years to take some control over the schools, or at least protect their kids from those schools - they chose not to. Now the country pays the price.

When kids make the choice to go liberal, I think that’s an unintended blessing for parents when it comes to Wills and Living Trusts. It makes decisions so much easier.

My friend’s two kids in their 40s are conservative and they’re raising their own children that way. Friend and hubby have told them the grandchildren’s college will be paid for, depending on the college. Hillsdale is at the top of the list. Also Grove City, Liberty, Bob Jones. Not forcing them to go there, but maybe helping them make good choices.

One of my nieces "made" the field hockey team last year for her high school - which was virtual most of the year due to the "pandemic" nonsense.

They did not play any games. They did not attend any practices. They had a few ZOOM meetings to discuss who knows what. Strategies for games that would never be played?

At then end of the virtual season, they all got trophies and certificates. I kid you not.

Apparently the reason for all of this phony-baloney was so that they could have this extra-curricular activity on their high school record to help them get into a good college. Also, I'm sure the field hockey coaches wanted to get paid too.

That’s what I notice the most...leftist are the most unhappy people you’ll ever meet. It’s like they are angry about everything, all the time! They have no joy. It is very sad to see a whole generation of kids that are living life with so much anger in their hearts for the world around them.

My own mother says she voted for Trump for 2016 but turned on him within months and became this rabid liberal ass. The lockdown made her stay home, watching the teevee all day (the Spew, Madcow etc…). Made everyone mask up at Thanksgiving (I wasn’t there). Every conversation became political, peppered with the “correct” leftie key words.

I know of someone similar in my family (not a close family member). During the lockdown, she ended up watching MSM 24/7 and turned from a somewhat reasonable person to a raving lunatic that nobody else wants to listen to. To the point where some of us have blocked her number on our phones. She made her own adult children mask up before entering her home. Naturally, they started coming by to see her a lot less.

I'm happy to say my own home has been an oasis of peace and quiet during all this. We have no cable TV and will only watch certain movies and documentaries on demand. The wife and I get our news online through trusted websites (like Free Republic). We will watch RSBN when a Trump event is taking place. We did see some of the recent CPAC but even that got a bit on our nerves after a while. No network news whatsoever poisons our home. Not even Tucker. Sorry Tucker.

At their age, most of us were looking forward to what life might bring us. Now, today’s young people are negative about everything.

These young people are adults making their own decisions. If your adult children have cancelled you, let them go. You did your best as parents raising them. Now they must make their own mistakes. If you’ve done nothing wrong, but your children want nothing to do with you because of politics, there’s nothing you can do, except to let them go and look out for yourself.

That is very well said.

I think some parents get a little too emotionally wrapped up with their adult children. When my children became adults (well before this "pandemic" and woke culture nonsense), I was willing to let them go and focus on my wife and our upcoming retirement.

It was a little tougher on my wife to let go but she eventually saw the wisdom of my approach. We raised them. We did an excellent job. We have nothing to be ashamed of. Now it's time for them to live their lives as they see fit without any interference or lecturing from us. They are out on their own making their own living and making their own choices, bad or good.

That is how we have been able to salvage our relationship with them. We treat them with respect and we treat them as adults. We also avoid unnecessary confrontation.

Here is an example...

Early in the "pandemic", one of my sons had a birthday and his fiance was planning a party for him. We planned to attend (it would have been a three hour drive each way). When we accepted, the fiance texted "You WILL be wearing masks, correct?" In fairness to my son's fiance, that particular son was just as nutty about the masking up. For months, they would not leave the house without a mask, even if just walking the dog.

We did not respond directly to the text. A few days later, I texted her politely expressing our regrets. Something had come up and unfortunately we would be unable to attend the party. So sorry. We will be sure to call and send a card though.

She got the message. We saw them several times after that and masks were never mentioned again. We never brought it up either. Why make a confrontation about it when it is not necessary?

Good advice. Your grown children probably respect you in return.
