To anyone trying pine needle tea. Some are toxic. It's not worth the risk unless you can be 100% certain of identifying safe varieties of trees.

There were a few good videos on Youtube but I didn't save the links. I am skeptical of my ability to identy toxic species like YEWS. NO YEWS FOR YOU!

I'll put some reference photos below but I urge all to consider double and triple checking with alternative sources as an error could be toxic.

I can see I forgot everything I read about flavor - this is one reviewers opinion on flavor:

The Tongass is mostly Yellow cedar and Sitka Spruce. Too late for Spruce tips here now, but in early spring they make a delicious, citrusy tea. I sometimes just pick them and chew them on the trail. I haven't tried the cedar yet.

Fir trees around here don't look like that at all, maybe another variety? Lemme find photos. Hmm, now I'm finding there are about 6 or 7 kinds of fir in OR but the main one where I live is Douglas, but we have the Grand or True fir as well. I've seen both on our property.

And now I'm finding that Douglas fir isn't a "real" fir so ...at a loss as to whether it has the good stuff or not. I'll keep looking. Good idea for people to see what kinds of fir or pine or whatever trees that have the good stuff are in their area. Tree identification sites have good photos of bark, needles, cones etc.
