My neighbor fell a couple of years ago and I found her and called the police, who called the fire department, who called the ambulance. She was very adamant though. She DID NOT AT ALL want to go to the hospital, although she could not stand and definitely could not walk. I talked her into going and stayed with her for a couple of hours until her son could arrive.
She had told me previously that she did not want to leave her home EVER. She wanted to die there.
She has never returned home and is now living in an assisted living place near her sons.
Just yesterday, though, one son was down and was fixing things about the house to prep it for his son. That young son, the lady’s grandson, will live there while he attend the university. They reassured me that it was the right thing for the lady to go to the hospital and she is happier now and can interact with a lot of people and her family much more easily.
I am willing to support my dad in whatever he wishes to do. If he wants to stay home and something happens and help doesn’t arrive, I will not repine his decision. He would have died (this hasn’t happened yet) where and how he wishes.
“I found her and called the police, who called the fire department, who called the ambulance.”
My goodness! Don’t you have 911 there? One call to that number and they send out the ambulance and then a lot of times the firetruck and police will follow.
I agree. Don’t force him to do what he doesn’t want to as long as he still has his faculties.
