Silicon Valley’s ‘Mission Protocol’ Revolution Is Beginning to Attain Critical Mass

In Silicon Valley, 17 years later, another kind of revolution is taking shape. A handful of founders and CEOs—Brian Armstrong of Coinbase, Jason Fried of Basecamp, Shopify’s Tobias Lütke, Medium’s Ev Williams—have said the unsayable. In the face of shop-floor social-justice activism, they’ve decided, business owners should resolve to stick to business.

...

In October, a pseudonymous group inspired by Coinbase’s Brian Armstrong came together under the banner “Mission Protocol,” with the aim of getting other companies to start “putting aside activities and conversations” outside the scope of their professional missions. (“Mission focus doesn’t mean being apolitical,” they note. “It means being political about the mission. This mission is what you came together to accomplish, and this mission is what you’re fighting for in your work on the project.”) Paul Graham, a famed venture capitalist and “hacker philosopher,” tweeted his support to 1.3 million followers. Melia Russell, who covers the startup beat for Business Insider, noted that startups were jumping into the Mission Protocol threads “with a hell yes.”

This would be a great step away from the Abyss.
Perhaps the lesson Intel learned when they embraced this nonsense is coming forward.

Since this all began at Stanford, I don’t think things are going to change for the better.

I'll sum up the article in one sentence. The business of business is business.

Too bad so many people fail to grasp the moral superiority of Capitalism. They cling to Socialism as fervently as any other zealot and remain deliberately blind to its evils.

No hashtag coders. No message-board threads about anti-racism or neo-pronouns. No open letters meant to get someone fired for a decade-old tweet. No politics. As Armstrong put it in his famous (or infamous) September 27th, 2020 blog post, business should be “mission focused.” A software developer explained that the conciliatory approach has become too costly: “The Slack shit, the company-wide emails, it definitely spills out into real life, and it’s a huge productivity drag.”

Some founders, venture capitalists, and angel investors are now refusing to speak with legacy-media journalists who infuse their reporting with a social-justice slant. “What’s the point [of talking to reporters]?” a developer said. “They hate us, and we think they know nothing about the way the world works outside their woke, east-coast bubble.”

It should not be surprising that the techs are taking a dislike to wokeness internally. These companies all have very few blacks in software development. Under woke "logic", the techs are all thoroughly racist. They would destroy themselves if they internalized wokeness.

But don't hold your breath waiting for an end to censorship at the social media companies, Amazon etc. It would be typical disgusting liberal hypocrisy to be blocking wokeness internally, while foisting it on the culture.

If there are techs who are thoroughly woke internally, I expect they'll disappear eventually. Meanwhile we are hearing of a lot of woke insanity at non-tech companies (insurance, airlines, Disney). Perhaps they will eventually destroy themselves.

More from the article: But the forces of counterrevolution are strong. Last week, Snowflake CEO Frank Slootman went on Bloomberg Television to endorse a “moderated” approach to diversity that doesn’t “override merit” or reflect a climate of “hysteria” and “outrage.” “From my own experience talking to many CEOs, all the names that you know, privately, we are of the same mind,” he added. But as Slootman found out, there’s still a big difference between what you’re allowed to say privately and what you’re allowed to say in public: Following howls of outrage at his pro-merit remarks, he was forced to issue an apology.

For these CEOs, the problem isn’t just the media and external critics: The wokeness is coming from inside the building. At dinner parties, they ask each other the same question: How do we keep woke activists off the payroll? “It’s the first thing they want to talk about these days,” a vice president at a venture-capital shop told me. “It’s the crazy, activist, political stuff. I’ve not met a founder who doesn’t think it’s a problem. There’s a state of what the f**k?”

"How do we keep woke activists off the payroll?" This is a strange question. Do they mean somebody is trying to force them to put them on the payroll? Who is that and how do they do it?

Meanwhile, although some may be Republicans, I think most of these idiots are committed Democrats.

BTW, I own stock in Snowflake. It's taking the database software world by storm.

The enemy is inside the K-12 classrooms.

No one is trying to force them to do this. It's long since a done deal. The rot is everywhere.

What it means is how can we make sure we are not hiring a Social Justice Warrior. They want someone who is a coding Warrior who stays focused only on writing code.

"so many people fail to grasp the moral superiority of Capitalism."

A great example of this occurred last year during Tesla's shareholders' meeting. A few woke policies were proposed, obviously injected by Progressives who bought a few shares just for the purpose of "social justice". One proposal demanded corporate activism on behalf of child laborers mining cobalt; this was voted down.
A few minutes later, something remarkable happened.
Something that served the interest of ending forced child labor to wit cobalt mining.
Elon announced Tesla is eliminating cobalt from battery production.
The self-righteous Progressives (to wit Communists) wanted advocacy in cobalt mining.
Capitalism eliminated the issue outright.
Sure it will take a while to propagate cobalt-free battery technology thru the industry, but that will happen faster and do far more than Socialists "doing something".

Likely a major factor was some wannabe-engineer Progressive (someone here can remind me) who weaseled her way into altering a major open-source license agreement, legally compelling developers to adhere to unrelated “social justice” behaviors - or forego their already-deep dependence on some major open-source code. She thought she was being clever and progressive; instead, likely started the avalanche of “stay on task”.

A society is truly flourishing when such crap can, itself, flourish - despite the obvious detriment to society.
