I grew up in Pompano Beach until I started high school in Tennessee. We had Chicano’s but I never understood exactly what that was. They came seasonally to pick tomatoes and green beans and then left. I remember them being larger than most Mexicans but I was little so there is that. We were always warned to be careful when they were in town because they were dangerous. This was in the early 60’s. They appeared to be black Mexicans to me. I haven’t heard that term used since I moved to Tennessee.
