Flag in the breeze, Secretariat pulls away, then he blasts off into history.

I remember that race well. Secretariat won it by 31 lengths.
Watched the movie a few weeks ago. Most enjoyable.
Greatest quote in the history of racing, “He’s moving like a machine!”
Amazing.
Could do without the background music.
Also, I hate that video of these old races are of such poor resolution.
I’ve seen it more times than I can count...it still makes me cry every single time.
48 years later Secretariat still holds the speed records for the Kentucky Derby(1:59), Preakness(1:53), and Belmont Stakes(2:24). No other horse has finished the Belmont Stakes faster than 2:26.
Sorry, I left a word out, “He’s moving like a tremendous machine!”
He’s moving like a TREMENDOUS machine.
i was a very young child, but I remember it because we were at my uncle’s cabin and the adults were listening on the radio. I had the sense it was historical.
Just a remarkable animal and competitor.
It just destroyed that other horse. I wonder if it ever won another race.
still the greatest single sporting achievement iv’e ever seen....
That was fun to see again.
Racing coverage these days sucks.
They let in so much background noise I can’t hear the announcer call it.
I remember Chic Anderson’s great call of the race. At one point, it became clear that he was no longer just an announcer, but one of many onlookers who could not believe what he was seeing.
“Secretariat is all alone! He’s out there almost a sixteenth of a mile away from the rest of the horses!”
My favorite movie
Secretariat won the Belmont by more than 30 lengths, as this video of the race shows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfCMtaNiMDM
My favorite movie
People speak of jaw-dropping experiences. That is still the only sports event where I suddenly realized that my jaw had actually dropped open in amazement.
