Looking at what we thought we won in 1945
American Thinker ^ | 7 Jun, 2021 | John Simpson

As America seems on the cusp of profound change, it's worthwhile looking back at what the Greatest Generation fought for.

Yesterday was the 77th anniversary of D-Day. Many people think of World War II in terms of battles won or lost, ground lost or gained, terrible deaths and miraculous moments of survival. However, World War II was also the clash of two ideologies. On the one side was Hitler’s variation on socialism, one that allowed for some private ownership in a totalitarian state. On the other side was the concept of individual liberty birthed in England and given full meaning in America.

While Hitler lost, America didn’t necessarily win. Socialism survived in the Soviet Union, China, Latin America, Africa, and Europe (in a soft form), and it is aggressively alive on American college campuses. Because the battle rages un, let us remember what it was that our Greatest Generation fought and died for, from the deserts of North Africa and the beaches of Normandy to the gates of Berlin:

The freedom of Jews to live their lives in peace without fear of persecution or violence in the streets.

The freedom from violence by Brownshirts who would terrorize and beat our citizens into submission.

Peace and freedom from the pillaging and blitzkrieg of our great American cities by evil forces.

There is an eternal struggle between good and evil. People got complacent. Maybe even lazy. It will take much more hard work to stop communism now.

I’m not sure this author knows much about American history. FDR was our most totalitarian president and and tried things Biden can only dream of.

Even worse, that son of a biscuit, unfortunately, COMPLETED things Biden can't even imagine with this idled brain...but Joseph Stolen's Marxist handlers sure are salivating!

Your assertion about FDR is right down the line of how I was going to respond to this article. I would have gone further to trace the advent of “soft socialism” to the turn of the Century and a bit before that time. If you want to find a clear demarcation line in history, I’d say the establishment of the Federal Reserve along with direct taxation in the 16th Amendment and direct election of Senators in the 17th Amendment. Each of these took us further away from the freedom gained in the 18th Century in the establishment of this Republic.

My grand father considered FDR to be a socialist devil. He migrated from Italy got citizenship through WW I. Went into business as a mason and when social security came around refused to sign up as he said it was a socialist program. My grandmother was a dem. So whenever voting day came along he would not let her out of house to vote for that socialist SOB.
He told her I came here to get away from the facists and socialists and I am not going to let you put one in the whitehouse!!

Good points. If FDR had not died in 1945, he would have used the post-war years to transform society in even more fundamental ways. It would have looked like the UK with universal health care and mass nationalizations.

Truman had his flaws, but he was much more conservative than FDR and saved us from most of that. He easily ranks as the best Democrat president of the 20th century.

Worth noting that in 1945, the Brits kicked Churchill out and voted for Socialism.

My Greatest Generation Grandparents worshipped the ground FDR walked on.

Err, so to speak.

Nothing guarantees votes like Social Security.

FDR was our most totalitarian president and and tried things Biden can only dream of.

Quite right.

However, while FDR had Dexter White and most likely others together with a State Dept fairly well saturated with fellow-travelers (later including John Kerry's Yale, Harvard Law father), Biden has an admin shot through with out-of-the-closet leftists of all stripes.

Whether it is the bumbling, now patently inept Biden or giggling Harris, that experienced admin is aggressively working on devices to substantially improve the structural underpinnings of an anti-MAGA government.

It reminds one of the evolution of the 1920's government of the USSR. That was a rapid-moving exercise in pure evil, and what we see today is is throwing off the restraints and quickly picking up speed

World War III came right on the heels of World War II. As our former ally the Soviet union became our enemy as they went on global conquest.

And they had friendly agents within our own government academia etc. who provided aid and comfort.

Patton had the right idea at the end of ww2. Soviet Union should have been immediately defeated next.

MacArthur had the right idea about defeating the CCP in Korea and mainland Chinap.

Both Communist camps should have been curb stomped asap.

Millions of lives and dollars would have been saved.

Imho.

Millions of Russian , Chinese and American babies in the womb would have been saved also.

MacArthur was also spot on, Hollywood , state and federal office holders , scouts and academia WERE Communist infiltrated breeding grounds that should have been investigated and purged of all subversive seditious comrades .

Now we even have comrades in the military , and they are all about purging non comrades from our services.

We should have listened to all 3 of those insightful Americans.

Just say in.

As someone, a cousin I think, pointed out to me: You can vote your way into communism, but you'll have to fight your way out.

How is freedom lost by We the People electing our own Senators, rather than trusting the elites in our state legislatures to do it for us? I don't trust my Rat-controlled legislature to tie their own shoelaces, but even if I lived in a red state I'd rather my Senator be held accountable by the citizenry rather than by his/her cronies in the state legislature. I am as opposed to right-wing elitism as I am to left-wing elitism.
