Electric trains get their juice from an overhead catenary wire.
Or a diesel generator
Most locomotives are electric with diesel generators producing the electricity
In the cities with commuter trains, they have trains with the overhead wires to power the trains. In NYC and NJ, we have “hybrid” trains that are powered by the electric overhead wires in the city areas and once they get out to the burbs, the diesel generators kick on to power the train the rest of the way.
This technology has been around for many decades
“Electric trains get their juice from an overhead catenary wire.”
I guess you have never heard of the term ‘third rail’.
