Ernest Hunkle was not the love interest of Major Haywood, Hunkle’s problems were getting supplies, and the tattoo of “Gertie”...

Gavin MacLeod was also one of the crewmen of the PT-73 in McHale's Navy...
Quite a career, may he rest in peace.

I remember watching a re-run of the Mary Tyler Moore show when I was a kid. Murray was having a mid-life crisis and lamenting all of the great things he'd never accomplish. One of the great things he said he's missed out on was meeting Gloria Steinem. I was just a kid, but that still had me rolling my eyes - still one of the cringiest things I've heard on TV.

And played another sailor in The Sand Pebbles. Which was one of the reasons he left McHale’s Navy. To shoot the film.

Oddball: [Later: Oddball is looking through binoculars at the bridge] Still up!
Oddball: [planes fly and bomb the bridge] ... No it ain’t. See what sending out them negative waves did, Moriarty?
Moriarty: That ain’t my fault, Oddball, I’ve done nothing but have good thoughts about that damn bridge ever since we left!

Ed Asner (Lou Grant) was a complete Left wing A hole. Hollywood Leftists just weren’t in a position to screw up the world as much back then, because older people wouldn’t put up with the nonsense that people put up with now.
They were forced to make decent shows, because the audience had standards. Now they can make crap and nobody cares.
