We did the “duck and cover” under our desks in the third grade in 1963 while in school in S. Florida.
We never did the “duck and cover”. We all knew that the little symbol posted on the wall of the school basement meant it was a nuclear bomb shelter for the public.
All we ever had was tornado drills - essentially the same type of thing. Except we evacuated to the hallways and assumed the position. Ha.
