The Latest Round of Attacks on Ron DeSantis Have Gone From 'Desperate to Weird'
Townhall ^ | 9 May, 2021 | Katie Pavlich

The attacks on Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis have been unrelenting in recent months as his decisions on how to handle the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic have been vindicated by science and economic data in the state.

As opponents of DeSantis, for his 2022 gubernatorial run and an inevitable 2024 presidential campaign, fail to come up with real arguments that stick, they're digging to the bottom of the barrel in hopes of finding something that works to slow his political momentum.

The most recent attempt comes from Vanity Fair, which wrote a hit piece about "luring DeSantis to meetings with cupcakes."

According to the ex-aides, DeSantis can be so distant from his staff that they apparently took to tricking him into attending meetings by telling him it’s someone’s birthday and putting out cupcakes. “Loyalty and trust, that is not a currency he deals in,” one former staffer told the outlet. “It’s him and Casey. But everyone else is like a disposable piece of garbage.”

Last week POLITICO ran a piece accusing DeSantis of, gasp, listening to his wife.

We talked to a dozen or so onetime aides and consultants to the Florida governor, and they all said the same thing: DeSantis treats staff like expendable widgets. He largely relies on a brain trust of two: himself and his wife, CASEY DESANTIS, a former local TV journalist. Beyond that there are few, if any, “DeSantis people,” as far as political pros are concerned.

Could those be the same "political pros" who said DeSantis, not to mention President Donald Trump, could never win?

ANY Republican who has populist appeal gets destroyed by the media far more than other, mainstream, Republicans.

Now the question for you political amateurs is: Why is this the case?

Two things to watch out for. Is DeSantis a Trojan Horse for Never Trumpers?

I still remember where hosts like Levin or Beck were in 2016.

The heaping praise may be a backwards attack on Trump.

Also DeSantis “lifting restrictions” does not in any way lift mask orders that stores in Florida from Walmart on down impose on their customers.

In my blog post yesterday I quoted from a Walmart communication that clearly said Governor DeSantis’s orders do not change anything when it comes to customers having to be masked in their stores.

https://nextrushfree.blogspot.com/2021/05/nextrush-unpluged-weekend-jennerally.html

“Reopening” states as promoted by Fox News-Newsmax-Talk Radio-Conservative Websites does not give the people their freedom to be unmuzzled back when they shop.

If you think you are free in Florida you live a lie when the signs appear at store doors in the state.

I live in Florida, see about half the people no longer wearing masks in stores, including Walmart. They only give lip-service with a sign on the door.

So who’s your candidate for 2024?

The thing is, constant repetition has a way of working into the background of people’s thinking and coloring their thoughts. They know something is “true” because they heard it “somewhere.” The fact that they can’t remember where they heard it makes it much more of a fact than if they can quote, for example, CNN. It’s hard to counter that kind of attack. It’s hard to get the voter’s attention for any kind of substantive discussion. They’re tired, or out boating or the kid just spilled grape juice on the carpet. But, in the background CNN is playing, spreading a psychological blindfold of lies and half truths. People’s inner mind is listening and it has no power of discrimination. My sister, who gets no news input whatsoever, has CNN playing constantly playing in the background for company. She will knowledgably inject some liberal talking point into a conversation. When I try to dig down into where she got, she has no idea, saying, “I heard it someplace.”

It worked against Trump, even so-called Conservatives believed the crap they said about Trump. The “Big Lie” works.

Agree, I’m in Texas and even though most wear masks in Walmart and Home Depot, I don’t, and the employees treat me JUST FINE there. When masks were a mandate, things were far different in those stores.

I do think, though, that DeSantis will get tested on his opposition to vaccine passports, as the cruise lines are saying they won’t go to Florida if they cannot require passengers to be vaccinated. This will be interesting to watch, although there’s a good chance that the virus will be pretty much over before they start sailing again.

Ron DeSantis is running for president in 2024. Whether he knows it or not. At least that is an accepted line of thought among conservatives everywhere.

2024 is a long way away. I only hope DeSantis can endure the many years ahead.

Disgruntled former staffer: “DeSantis hates going to meetings”

Voters: “so do we!”

Media: “you don’t understand. One time they had to trick him into attending one of these meetings by bringing cupcakes. He also doesn’t listen to some of his staff.”

Voters: “you mean the same disgruntled former staff that tricked him into going to a meeting he didn’t want to attend?”

Media: “why don’t you understand how awful he is?”

I still remember where hosts like Levin or Beck were in 2016.

Many of us did not initially have Trump as our first choice in 2016 because he had no record and gave money to Ted Kennedy and other crazy Democrats. (Levin and Beck went full NR before finally coming around but remain trustworthy).

Trump now has a great Track record (except on appointments and Executive Branch nominations), and flipped me really fast, and 100%. I think DeSantis is less like Beck and Levin, and more like me and many other freepers.

You're misinformed about Florida. At least about north central Florida where I live.

I've never worn a mask here and few customers in the stores do. Oh, there are the obligatory signs on the doors but they're old and they're for liability purposes I'm sure. The county used to be able to fine employers and employees but not customers. Don't know whether that's been lifted of not. But not many people wear masks in the stores. I went into a Walmart in Stark recently and not a word was said to me about not wearing a mask. One restaurant in town I go to has taken their signs down completely and only the hardcore idiots wear masks.

If I didn't read the news online, I wouldn't even be aware of any mask mandates or that the covid existed. It appears to be normal (normal as in the way it's always been) around here for months now.

So I don't know where you get your information from, but the Florida where I live is pretty much back to pre-covid normal from what I can see.

Wait....he distances himself so much from staff that to get him to attend their meetings, they told him it was someone's birthday? Do they not see the fallacy in that logic?
