No... I wait 6 months and let it go to a third party collection company. that 8 K will come down to about 1500 to 1900. I pay for it immediately.

I’ve been in business all my life, and I know what things cost and what are fair prices. 8K for the above, is not a fair price. and to be honest, that 15 to 1900 is a little light. but, I feel warranted screwing them because they try’d to screw me. just sayin...

The problem is that hospitals can’t really post medical prices for emergency room visits because they don’t know what treatments you need in advance. Posting prices is ideal for elective procedures where you schedule them in advance and have time to consider alternatives, get a second opinion, etc.

What you describe isn’t medicaid fraud. That would be falsely billing medicaid for treatment you didn’t receive. If you did sign up, medicaid would only pay the hospital what they allow per their billing schedule, a small fraction of the $8,000 they want you to pay.

The “scam” is that hospitals are not transparent about how much they are going to charge you. And that they charge uninsured people far more than what they get paid for insured patients. They also know it’s a bit of a pain to shop hospitals while you are hurt and in need of care. So, they bill you $8,000 because they can. Being uninsured can be expensive, and that’s not going to change any time soon.

Point One - you cannot just "sign up" for Medicaid.

If you are between age 18-65, not pregnant, and not legally disabled, it is almost impossible to get Medicaid.

Point Two - medical care in ANY hospital emergency room is the MOST expensive medical care that you can get in the USA.

Point Three - if you have medical insurance, through your job, personal insurance, whatever, they frequently will not cover ER visits if you could have received the same treatment from your own medical provider within a reasonable time.

Bottom Line...

Sorry, if you do not have your own medical insurance, the ER bill is coming to your house, and no where else.

That’s how you do it.....then contact Equifax, etc., and get it purged from your credit report.

Did you mention to them that you had no insurance??
Did they ask for your insurance information or financial situation???
I’m pretty sure you can make some kind of arrangement with them unless they’re just trying to overcharge you.
I would call around and find out the cost of the services rendered....
Good Luck 👍

it has already been written off by then, and the taxpayers have been cornholed for the amount of your care. and you’re increasing the overall cost of healthcare, because now you’ve gotten a couple of hundred bureaucrats and accountants involved.

that 3rd party collection agency probably bought that bad debt for pennies on the dollar, so every dollar they pound out of you goes to some dude named Guido that lives in New Jersey.

I can’t think of a more unproductive way to access healthcare in america.

So you feel warranted accepting free medical care, screwing the physician who was required by law to take care of you, and letting him or her twist in the wind for six months because you neither understand the regulations nor the law on the medical industry.

Go to DU, you belong there. You are there reason the health care system is in shambles. You obviously think you have a right to the labor of others, and are comfortable screwing them.

You are the worst of the worst. Please get off this conservative forum.

I suspect you’d need a submarine to find his credit report. It’s that far underwater.

Do you have medical insurance? If not you can probably negotiate this down, how much I don’t know. Or get on a payment plan and they will take whatever you say you can pay, even $25 or less a month. I personally would just stick it to them!

I think you are correct. The worst part of this, he is participating in a risky sport uninsured, then whines when he gets hurt. I note that the water turned crimson. He thought he needed immediate care. And now bitches about the cost of the care that is required as a matter of law, not the choice of the physicians and nurses.

But he is ENTITLED to this and HAPPY to screw those who helped him. What if we providers had the right to refuse care — that might change things quickly.

Oh yeah if you have any assets whatsoever Medicaid will come after them. There is no free ride and they did not tell you that.

“because I dont like government hand outs. I’ve been that way all my life.”

Same here. I dont blame you. I didnt even apply for the free money from Trump for our company (EIDL) while everyone including their mothers got thousands OR millions . Blame it on our laziness. However, just like any establishment, one should have an idea of how much it’s gonna cost. Did I tell you that I’m one of the few Freepers who did not sign up with Obamatardcare, even when Jarjar was president?

I was bitten by a baby copperhead. The bill was 66,600. 66,000 for two treatments of anti-venom and 1 night in the hospital, 600.

Thank goodness insurance paid whatever amount, and I was stuck for 2,500 of the bill, if I remember correctly my amount. All I can be sure of is it was an amount I could afford.

So you think you would stick them — again someone who spent over $300,000 on education to have the privilege of taking care of patients, who by law had NO RIGHT to turn the patient away, yeah -— stick it to them. You have the right to the labor of someone else.

You, too, would be more comfortable over at DU. Why not head over there.

The sad truth is despite stating you dont want a hand out, by not paying the bill or accepting insurance, you have stuck the tax payer with the costs of your care.

He didn't say he wasn't willing to pay. He said he thought $8000 for what he got is a rip off. He's right.

$8k isn't the hospital's cost of your care, it's what they want for your care. It's that high because the crazy insurance/government care hybrid system we have removes all competition from the marketplace and hospitals are free to stick it to uninsured patients. $8k is an obviously ridiculous price far exceeding their cost plus a reasonable profit margin and medicaid or an insurance company would take one look at it and cut it down to a reasonable price.

Think of it like this. You go to dinner but the prices aren't posted on the menu. When you get your bill it's $500 while the guy at the table next to you gets his bill and it's $25 for the same meal, the difference being that his company has a pre-negotiated price list that keeps the restaurant from charging arbitrary prices for food, you don't have that so they can charge whatever they want and there really isn't anything you can do about it, there's no law saying they can't do it.

The "system" is designed so you're screwed if you try to pay for your own health care, you end up being charged many times a fair price. It almost forces you into either having overpriced health insurance or being a freeloader on medicaid. It leaves prople little other choice because unless you're allied with an insurer the hospitals are going to stick it to you just because they can.
