Newly released body camera video shows police talking to Mario Gonzalez in a park after receiving 911 calls that he appeared to be disoriented or drunk. He struggled to answer questions.
"He seems like he's tweaking, but he's not doing anything wrong," a man told a 911 dispatcher, according to an audio recording released Tuesday. "He's just scaring my wife."
The Gonzalez family and its attorney, Julia Sherwin, said his death is eerily similar to that of George Floyd, who died in Minneapolis police custody May 25.
"These Alameda police officers killed Mario literally while the jury was debating Derek Chauvin's murder charges," Sherwin said Wednesday.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death and awaiting results of an autopsy and toxicology tests.
Mario Gonzalez died one day before Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer, was convicted of murdering Floyd by holding him to the pavement with his knee for 9 minutes, 29 seconds.

She said there is an epidemic in America of police putting people prone on the ground and applying weight on their necks or backs until they are unresponsive. Dying under such circumstances "feels torturous," she said. She equated it to drowning on dry land.

Might depend on the race of the police officers. Too many good cops are leaving, and too many departments are relaxing standards, reducing training, and allowing marginal candidates to go forward. It’s what the left wants - the elimination of local policing to be replaced with a federal force answerable only to DC.

Yes, local cops are not saints and rotten apples are found in every barrel. That said, what they once were (and some forces still are) is accountable to local city, county and state politicians WE - barring the sort of chicanery we saw in 2020 - elect to those offices. If YOUR local cops become abusive, if those local officials want to remain in office they had better correct those abuses.
As arduous as the process is to clean up problems with LOCAL POLICE, imagine, if you can, how tough it will be if your only recourse is to “write your congressman”. How well has that worked for us over the years?
Stalinist Russia had a national police force. It was called the NKVD and, later, the KGB. The Russian people foolish enough to challenge Stalin wound up dead or cutting trees in Siberia.
Hitler also had a national police force. His was called the GESTAPO! and millions of German people (mainly the Jews and others who opposed Hitler) went to “camp” or the guillotine!
Think about it.

Stupid politicians are listening to stupid anarchists who want license to rampage across urban areas without repercussions. Law enforcement is under violent siege as they battle these monsters night after night, month after month. Police are leaving the profession in droves; not just because of the working conditions, but because stupid city governments refuse to support them.
The result is a massive police shortage across the country, especially in large blue cities. Police departments are also facing a recruiting crisis because qualified individuals are deciding they wouldn’t touch the law enforcement profession with a 10-foot pole.
“It’s the perfect storm,” said a spokesman for the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police. “We are anticipating that the department is going to be understaffed by several hundred members, because hundreds of guys are either retiring or taking other jobs and leaving the department.”
The former commissioner of the New York Police Department (NYPD) stated, “No police officer should work in a jurisdiction where they do not have the support of those they work for. Beginning today, I will no longer recommend young people consider the NYPD as a career.”

That happened when a My Little Pony fan convention reached its crowd limit and people went berserk outside, screaming and slamming their bodies against padlocked doors. But there were pretty rainbows everywhere.
Easy solution.
All law enforcement offiers will have to wear inflatable bulging uniform pants with extra foam padding on their knees so they will not be tempted to torture held down black people with them.
Will be a blue or brown cloth version of the Pillsbury Doughboy.
Other solution: require all black people to wear cervical collars in case they get pinned while running away from a crime they commit. After compliance with Fauci masks, they will obey.
Two big differences. He was held down for only 5 minutes, not over 9 minutes after trying to run away. As soon as he stopped moving, they immediately went into EMT mode rather than holding him down for another 5 minutes.

Don’t bet on that. I am intimately familiar with this town and have had many friends who worked on the police department. Check out the Wikipedia page already up entitled “The Death of Mario Gonzalez”. It names the officers involved and states they murdered him. Antifa is already signed on for a march on May 3rd from Oakland to Alameda PD Headquarters. BLM won’t be far behind.
there is at least one video on UTUBE of a cop holding a person down on the hood of their police car until they died of suffocation.
