To: Diana in Wisconsin

Years ago every local Wisconsin rural taverns would also offer locally made handycrafts which tourists could buy. Today you don’t see this. Why is that ?

My Grandpa made the most beautiful cribbage boards. He sold a LOT of them through our local tavern and took orders. I’ve inherited two of them. Grandma sold her home-canned foods and jams and jellies there, too.

She made the BEST bread - but that was only for us. :)

Wisconsin has relatively lax laws now for selling canned goods and home baked goods. It took a lot of work, but the ladies did it! They beat the WI Bakers Association and the WI Grocer’s Association. :)
