Yep. My father worked for McDonnell Douglas doing final inspection before the airplanes flew. He had to make sure the intakes were clear of tools, etc., and there was nothing around that could get sucked in.

Yep. I remember daily walkdowns of the ramps and flight deck looking for any little scrap of wire or nut or bolt that could FOD an engine.
