Hear, hear!

My Dad came back from Korea with permanent hearing damage and got squat.

Dad was a strong, strapping giant of a man that was unflappably composed in the face of danger or adversity. Nevertheless,
I remember him wearing blast muffs to my sports nights because the cheering and roars of the crowd would cause his ears to ring so badly, it was intolerable.

1. After being told that Madonna was singing the Die Another Day theme in 2002: “Are we going to need ear plugs?”

Sounds sensible to me.

Yogi Berra went a long time being ‘ridiculed’ about his misstatements BUT when you parse a lot of them, they make perfect sense....

That place is so crowded no one goes in there anymore

AND

Always go to other people’s funerals, otherwise they won’t go to yours

“People think there’s a rigid class system here, but dukes have even been known to marry chorus girls. Some have even married Americans.” 2000.

Especially relevant NOW

Got that right. . .

I met Prince Philip back in the late 90s. . .before you and I met.
Met him at a formal dinner, Guildhall, London.
We chatted in a side room before being escorted into the main hall.
I was in my formal Air Force Mess Dress.
Out of nowhere, he looked at me with a wry grin on his face and asked: “Do you know why Bill Clinton wears underpants?”
Me: “Ahhh. . . No.”
HRH: “To keep his ankles warm, of course!” He laughed and by gawd, I laughed as well. . .good joke. . .good man.

I liked and respected him very much because of who he was and the fact that he was genuinely human and always a nice guy to me.

That was no joke with Carlin, it was all about how the language gets softened over time, and has all the humanity sucked out of it. He was right on there. Some things I vehemently disagreed with Carlin on, but he was right on, a lot of the time.

I had never heard this one. His son said he didn't suffer fools gladly:
39.
A VIP at a local airport asked HRH: “What was your flight, like, Your Royal Highness?

Philip: “Have you ever flown in a plane?”

VIP: “Oh yes, sir, many times.”

“Well,” said Philip, “it was just like that.”

A good amount of Carlin’s later work were rants about the decrease of basic common sense. If he were alive today, he would be ripping snowflakes to pieces.

I wish it were true, but I must say, his strongest vitriol was towards conservatives, especially religious ones, now I get attacking organized religion, especially TV preachers, they deserve to be mocked, but he genuinely came across at being angry at God (even though he claimed to be an atheist, why be angry at something you think doesn't exist?)

About atheists, your right about the anger. I heard one preacher describe it. Even if the atheist sounds rational in denying the existence of God, deep down inside he is shaking his fist toward heaven, yelling “No, God!”
Much like what Joseph Stalin did on his death bed just before he expired.

Towards the end George was just angry and mean. After his wife died, the process just accelerated. I love his earlier stuff. Edgy, but not mean spirited.
