Post-Rush Limbaugh Plans Unveiled At Cox Media Group's WSB Atlanta and WOKV Jacksonville
Inside Radio ^ | March 15, 2021 | Staff Writers

Cox Media Group is moving into the post-Rush Limbaugh era with new programs on news/talkers WSB-WSBB-FM (750/95.5) Atlanta and WOKV-FM Jacksonville (104.5).

Erik Erickson moves from 4-6pm to 12-3pm at WSB, followed by one-hour of Sean Hannity (3-4pm) and then Mark Arum from 4-7pm, who adjusts from his current 6-8pm show hours. The final two hours of Hannity will air from 7-9pm.

“I would never have gotten into radio without encouragement from Rush Limbaugh who has been gracious over the years with a lot of great advice and guidance,” Erickson, who has been with the station for a decade, said in a release. “It was an honor to fill in for him on his show, and it is overwhelming and humbling to move into the slot Rush occupied with such distinction for so long. I appreciate and intend to live up to the responsibility that comes with this time slot.”

Arum has been with WSB since 1997 and also serves as the traffic anchor for WSB-TV’s “Channel 2 Action News This Morning.” He remains as the youngest inductee ever into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame in 2017.

“When I was hired at 95.5 WSB over 23 years ago, I could never have envisioned that I would ever get the opportunity to host a drive time show on the best news and talk station in the nation. It’s a cliché, but this is truly a dream come true,” Arum said. “I invite all of Metro Atlanta and North Georgia to get all the news, weather and traffic they need, and the entertainment they want every afternoon with me and my pals on 95.5 WSB, Atlanta’s News and Talk.”

In Jacksonville, Mark Kaye, who recently stepped down from his morning show on CHR WAPE-FM to focus on his talk show at WOKV-FM, moves from 10am-12pm to 12-3pm. The syndicated Brian Kilmeade will now air from 9am-12pm on WOKV-FM. The show previously aired from 9-10am and 6-8pm on the station.

“As a life-long fan of Rush Limbaugh, I am still adjusting to a world without his voice,” Kay remarked. “Producing a daily show in ‘Rush’s timeslot’ is a daunting task for any broadcaster, but I am grateful to the leadership team at CMG and 104.5 WOKV for placing their trust in me. With the audience's help I promise to do my best to keep Rush’s spirit, energy, and unique brand of conservative entertainment alive. This is an incredibly bittersweet opportunity.”

“I am thrilled that we have the opportunity to elevate internal CMG talent to these critically essential dayparts on our news-talk stations,” Senior VP, Radio Rob Babin added. “Mark Kaye, Erick Erickson and Mark Arum each have a proven track record and commitment to our audience and communities. I have no doubt their success will continue as they expand to new dayparts and reach new audiences.”

All changes go into effect Monday, March 22.

Mark Steyn when subbing for Rush was more into promoting EIB in the Rush version. No host can replace him. I would like to here a host that is unleashed and that would be Steyn for now. Mark’s stick may not play well in some states and markets, a brawler he is though. Would like to hear him unleashed. He has done that in Canada and pissed off the frogiies on the left. I believe pissing lefties off is still the way to get under the skin and they make mistakes!

Chris is more like as “harmless, loveable little porcupine.” ;)

That made me laugh.

So true. Man, I laugh almost the entire time I'm listening to him. And to think he grew up in a household with step-father, uber-lib newscaster Bill Plante, started out as a liberal reporter for CNN and eventually saw the light. He is so quick and sharp. I'd be willing to bet his IQ, like Rush's, approaches genius level.

Yes, Luber’s got to be close to 80, but he always does excellent work and is a major MAGA advocate.

He’s a veteran of many years at WJZ Channel 13 and close to 30 years with WCBM.

In any case, it doesn’t look or sound like Sean Casey is going to be having just one new morning partner, with literally a “Company” of contributors.

Rush was Unique, cannot ever be replaced.
On his show he could talk for hours without taking a phone call, it was more an education than a talk show,he dissected issues, this is wha I miss, and why are country is going to sink further into the abyss, without Rush’s education on the issues.
I miss him

It’s time to move Howie Carr to syndication from noon to three.

Harmless lovable little porcupine with major ADD.

Perfect for a radio host.

I really like listening to Chris Plante. I wish his producers would expel just a bit of effort with his podcast and edit out the newscast, traffic and commercials.

Much as I like MARIA LEAF WMAALLLL, I don’t want to listen to yesterday’s news.

Erickson is a never Trumper, establishment guy who wants to be liked and does not provide enough information to be worth listening to.

Arum is worse. He sells himself as a reasonable moderate but he is a closet liberal to the left of McCain. I am done listening to WSB. Hannity says the same thing over and over but he is the best of that lineup. The regular news on WSB is hard left, always presenting Democrat talking points and mostly Democrats politicians making their best case. When the have a Republican making a point it is always a weak one or not relevant to the issue. For example they would never point out less that 9% of the Covid bill was for checks.

Splitting Hannity is a baffling, even stupid, move.

What might be more baffling is that there is no clear "next man up" group of hosts ready to assume the spot after the proposed period of mourning is over.

As much as we love our favorite talkers, they are all some sort of combination of paranoid, ego, and jealousy. It could be why there was no clear successor to Limbaugh--he simply didn't want to spend time on promoting someone who takes his place after he is dead.

There should be a natural progression of things regarding Rush's replacement. Infinity/CBS did it right when THE biggest ego in radio history, Howard Stern, left terrestrial radio in what could only be described as the biggest case of "be careful what you wish for" in radio history". (Although both replacements, Adam Carolla, and David Lee Roth, both failed in various degrees)

The EIB should have 2-3 hosts they feel can become big, and sign them to a deal. In the meantime, let the stations fill who they want, and in the unlikely event the next Rush Limbaugh comes along, he will get a syndication deal and get put in prison by the Harris administration.

Did they have a falling out, or did Hedgeock “graduate” from guest hosting, by getting a syndication deal? Because that is what happens on the EIB.

Steve Deace is in my top 3. He should have stayed syndicated on terrestrial radio.

He already has a sidekick. Raheem Kassam is excellent. He is very intelligent and has a good sense of humor as well.

Erik Erickson — Isn’t he the huge NeverTrumper who banned Trump from a Red State gathering during the primary season?

Exactly! It can truly be said that at the national level EE was the first to "cancel" Trump.

For those that don't know, this is the guy that after affording Kemp and Raffensberger comfortable radio interviews back in early January regarding national and local elections, piously advised listeners to not be concerned about fraud, "God is in control."

Clearly he is in the wrong profession.

He should fund scholarships for kids to go to conservative colleges (i.e., Hillsdale) and major in journalism, communications, etc.

Or even for intercity kids to go to private Christian schools.

I don’t know if WRKO in Boston was carrying Rush, but Grace Gurley who is/was Howie Carr’s producer and sidekick has her own show on WRKO middays. She is taking Rush’s midday spot at WGAN in Portland tomorrow.

WRKO Adds Grace Curley In 2021
By Radio Ink -November 19, 20201

The Grace Curley Show hits the air in Boston at WRKO-AM 680 next year. Curley takes over middays on January 4.

Curley is the executive producer of the Boston-based Howie Carr Show and a Boston Herald contributing columnist. Curley will discuss the latest pop culture and political headlines from her millennial perspective.

“Grace Curley is a great talent and just the sort of host Talk radio needs to take the industry to the next level,” said Carr. “Grace is a young, articulate, conservative woman who already has years of experience in drivetime programming, state-of-the-art podcasts and daily print journalism.”

“I am ecstatic for this huge opportunity to host a Talk radio show and offer my perspective on politics, pop culture and more,” said Curley. “Over the last six years, I’ve been mentored by one of the best in the business, and I look forward to putting the skills I’ve learned from Howie Carr to the test and creating a show that is interesting, unique and entertaining.”

Bannon or Chris Plante are the only 2 worthy to sit behind the golden EIB microphone.

I can’t imagine the lost revenue for these stations now that Rush is gone.

So who is going to replace Rush? I vote Mark Steyn. Stop with the the daily Rush rewind tributes already.

I agree about stopping the tributes for various s reasons.

I also agree that if Mark Stein chose to take Rush’s slot..it would be a good thing. Mainly because Mark Stein is not the kind to think he can fill Rush’s shoes.

Eric Erickson== What a COMPLETE waste of time— FAKE conservative, constantly talking about himeself-— always a Never Trumper, in NO way would Rush ever have endorsed him— just as Breitbart never “endorsed” Ben Shapiro as his “buddy” he wasn’t.

These are light weights. Pay attention Atlanta. All you have to balance this out is the podcasts of the Talkmaster Neil Boortz.
