Cox Media Group is moving into the post-Rush Limbaugh era with new programs on news/talkers WSB-WSBB-FM (750/95.5) Atlanta and WOKV-FM Jacksonville (104.5).
Erik Erickson moves from 4-6pm to 12-3pm at WSB, followed by one-hour of Sean Hannity (3-4pm) and then Mark Arum from 4-7pm, who adjusts from his current 6-8pm show hours. The final two hours of Hannity will air from 7-9pm.
“I would never have gotten into radio without encouragement from Rush Limbaugh who has been gracious over the years with a lot of great advice and guidance,” Erickson, who has been with the station for a decade, said in a release. “It was an honor to fill in for him on his show, and it is overwhelming and humbling to move into the slot Rush occupied with such distinction for so long. I appreciate and intend to live up to the responsibility that comes with this time slot.”
Arum has been with WSB since 1997 and also serves as the traffic anchor for WSB-TV’s “Channel 2 Action News This Morning.” He remains as the youngest inductee ever into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame in 2017.
“When I was hired at 95.5 WSB over 23 years ago, I could never have envisioned that I would ever get the opportunity to host a drive time show on the best news and talk station in the nation. It’s a cliché, but this is truly a dream come true,” Arum said. “I invite all of Metro Atlanta and North Georgia to get all the news, weather and traffic they need, and the entertainment they want every afternoon with me and my pals on 95.5 WSB, Atlanta’s News and Talk.”
In Jacksonville, Mark Kaye, who recently stepped down from his morning show on CHR WAPE-FM to focus on his talk show at WOKV-FM, moves from 10am-12pm to 12-3pm. The syndicated Brian Kilmeade will now air from 9am-12pm on WOKV-FM. The show previously aired from 9-10am and 6-8pm on the station.
“As a life-long fan of Rush Limbaugh, I am still adjusting to a world without his voice,” Kay remarked. “Producing a daily show in ‘Rush’s timeslot’ is a daunting task for any broadcaster, but I am grateful to the leadership team at CMG and 104.5 WOKV for placing their trust in me. With the audience's help I promise to do my best to keep Rush’s spirit, energy, and unique brand of conservative entertainment alive. This is an incredibly bittersweet opportunity.”
“I am thrilled that we have the opportunity to elevate internal CMG talent to these critically essential dayparts on our news-talk stations,” Senior VP, Radio Rob Babin added. “Mark Kaye, Erick Erickson and Mark Arum each have a proven track record and commitment to our audience and communities. I have no doubt their success will continue as they expand to new dayparts and reach new audiences.”
All changes go into effect Monday, March 22.
How dare you
I’ve been holding out hope that Mark Steyn will take over the Rush Limbaugh show. He has been absent for the past few weeks if I am not mistaken. I hope that means big things are coming.
I have no idea who Erik Erickson is but if he wasn’t even good enough to fill in for Rush in recent years, and if he is a never-Trumper, then he does not and will not exist for me.
If that one is in the closet, I’d hate to meet one that was out.
Yeah, the ones that are, will be found in congress. :)
Atlanta is screwed anyway its a six million person suburb liberal hell hole.Without Atlantas liberals we would have had at least one more senator and a country we could live in without hanging our heads.
The worst thing about talk radio is the management. It sucks no matter where you go they are all egomaniacs surrounded with thousands of wannabes all wiling to work for free. Its even worse these days since most stations are hanging on by a thread, its all advertising money nothing else matters.
Very nice.
He looks like a Lincoln Projector. Or Projectionist.
8^)
I can’t believe WSB would choose EE. This will not go well.
I’m hoping to access another radio program...
Do you know the stations that will have Dan B on?
Wow, thanks for this ping from several months ago. In my area, they decided not to even air a national program, and went with local hosts that just stink.
I think about Rush almost every day in some context.
Erick Erickson was banned from hosting for Rush after his despicable anti-Trump remarks. It IS an insult to listeners.
Bless us all.
Erick Erickson has a pig voice because he is a P-I-G PIG, as the lady said.
"See, if you can guess, what I am now."
"I'm a zit....Get it?"
Yeah, that’s Erick alright, if one takes away the hilarity. Just the personality a 200# festering zit.
The big 50,000 watt talk radio station in my area - WTIC 1080 AM - did the same. Immediately after Rush's show ended, WTIC shook up their entire line-up, and it is AWFUL now. They even replaced one conservative guy with a freakin' liberal!
Fortunately I have another local "backup" radio station (in nearby Springfield, MA) to choose from that is airing the successor to Rush's legendary show: The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show - Inspired by Rush.
Clay & Buck are nowhere near as good as Rush was (who is??), but they're a heck of a lot better than the local WTIC guys.
