Recall alert: Kia recalls 380K vehicles for fire risk, tells people to park outside
Fox 23 Television ^ | March 9, 2021 | Natalie Drier

Kia says if you have one of the company’s 380,000 recalled vehicles, you should park it outside.

That’s because of a potential engine compartment fire risk.

Some Sportage SUVs made between 2017 and 2021, as well as Cadenza sedans from 2017 through 2019, can have a short circuit in the hydraulic electronic brake control unit. Excessive current can increase fire risk, The Associated Press reported.

“Not here in my area.”

I find it very hard to believe that dealerships are not paid for recall work.

Name one and I will follow up on it.

“They are being paid the SAME wage as before. “

Then how are they losing money?

Friend bought a brand new KIA and several weeks later the gear shift jammed; service dept. said she was doing something wrong. Finally had it towed to the dealer and ripped the service manager big time.

KIA has 100,000 miles/10 year powertrain warranty...

The errors did *NOT* occur on the Ford assembly plant floor.

I am sorry to hear about your car troubles...

I am driving a Ford car right now...I bought it because it was cheap...Next time, I am buying some other brand...

Given the lack of driving skills today, ABS is a valuable addition for the masses.

I think they make more profit on non-warranty jobs vs warranty jobs.

The standard time allotment from the factory on warranty jobs is always tight, even if you do them multiple times and get good at it.

She knew that. The car was only a few weeks old when the gear shift stuck. The service manager was telling her she was doing something wrong. Several people tried with the same result. The service manager kept blowing her off.

I had a auto shop for 18 years.

Care to elaborate on your reply?

On the Ford recall, it was a redundant switch/sender on the master cylinder to cancel cruise control that was leaking,. The fix included the harness and a new switch.

All the "fixed" recall vehicles I had come through, plus the ones we owned did not have the switch replaced.

There are were several articles in trade magazines that discussed this "fix" the dealers were making.

The master cylinder was allowed to continue to leak brake fluid as long as the fire hazard was resolved.

Yes they do! Better than all the big names, and you can get a 7 year warranty that covers pretty much everything, electronics included!

I’m working a deal to get that on top of the 10 year/100,000 powertrain deal, try THAT with and on the Big Three or GM crap.

The 2021 Forte GT turbo is pretty fun to drive and u can get one under 20k

I just might...

“…several weeks later the gear shift jammed”

In the early 80s, we had just gotten married and wanted a safe car for our upcoming babies, so we bought a brand new Volvo 740 turbo sedan. We signed the papers and took possession of our new pride and joy. I was driving it off the dealer’s lot and went very gently over the slight dip between the lot and street when KABLOOIE! — the on-floor gear shifter release knob exploded. Parts and springs bounced off the ceiling and caromed around the car. It went right back into the shop!

The worst part of owning that car is that it went downhill from there.

At least the dealer didn’t tell me “you’re doing it wrong.”

Need to cut down on electrically controlled systems in modern automobiles. Especially brakes and gear shifters. Using a clock spring electrical connection in steering wheel invites too many complications or failures.

Ain’t happening as they appear to relish in complicating simple machines.

I thought that Volvo made good cars in general...Swedish engineering...

YELP time...Maybe your friend should tell her story on YELP about that dealership...Warn other people...

That car had amazing handling, acceleration, and braking. Very taut and controllable. The best performance car I’ve ever owned.

But a myriad of failures overshadowed all the good characteristics. They put a plastic tee in the hot coolant to the cabin heater — it fractured and spilled all the coolant. The turbocharger bearings froze up. The wiring harness was defective triggering the ABS randomly below 15 mph. Many more such problems big and small.

I guess I was lucky, I bought a 2007 used Kia OPtima in 2008, drove that car for ten years and only had to do basic maintenance. It was the best used car I ever had, I now own a 2009 Kia Optima!
