Exposing Corwin’s Socialist Math Textbook Series
American Thinker ^ | 9 Mar, 2021 | Christopher Paslay

Educational publisher Corwin Press has abandoned any pretense of objectivity and has openly embedded its politi cal agenda into much of its material.

Corwin Press, a professional development book publisher, is no longer interested in producing academic material designed to teach children how to think, rather, has set its sights on teaching students what to think. The company, which was established in 1990, has taken a hard left turn over the past five years, so much so that the publisher has abandoned any pretense of objectivity and has openly embedded its political agenda into much of its material.

In January, Corwin posted so-called “free resources to help educators process the Jan. 6th riot at the Capitol,” which provided links to agenda-driven activist groups like Black Lives Matter, whose aim was to indoctrinate school children in polarizing identity politics.

Now Corwin is promoting a new series of math textbooks aimed at indoctrinating high school students in radical leftist politics, textbooks that replace objective, linear math with socialist propaganda. A book titled High School Mathematics Lessons to Explore, Understand, and Respond to Social Injustice, is one such example.

The introduction to the book, titled “Why is Teaching Mathematics for Social Justice Critical?” states “Whether we talk about it or not, our students regularly experience the impacts of social privilege, power, and activism every day.” This introduction reveals the true motive of the book, which is first to indoctrinate teachers and students in progressive social justice activism, and to ingrain in them a willingness to accept socialism and the political agenda of the left

They don’t have to. There is no opposition party. When our cities were in flames last summer what did the GOP do? Offer to cancel Columbus Day.

...and we CONTINUE to send our kids to our ‘free’ public schools (to have money for that nice truck and keep up with the Jones), so yes, no need for them to hide their agenda.

Can’t blame them for taking advantage of the IDIOCY of our side.

Socialists are mentally ill.
The reason we have so many of the creatures, it that in the 1960s and 1970s, the discharge of mental patients was accelerated in many states as a result of a series of court decisions that limited the commitment powers of state and local governments and officials.

We live in a time when people can be insane and not get eaten by a lion.

“Why is Teaching Mathematics for Social Justice Critical?”

So as not to have to talk about a significant number of students being unable to do basic math?

1. Teaching Math in the 1950s
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is
4/5 of the price. What is his profit ?

2. Teaching Math in the 1960s
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is
4/5 of the price, or $80. What is his profit?

3. Teaching Math in the 1970s
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is
$80. Did he make a profit?

4. Teaching Math in the 1980s
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is
$80 and his profit is $20. Your assignment: Underline the number 20 …

5. Teaching Math in the 1990s
A logger cuts down a beautiful forest because he is selfish and
inconsiderate and cares nothing for the habitat of animals or the
preservation of our woodlands. He does this so he can make a profit of
$20. What do you think of this way of making a living? Topic for class
participation after answering the question: How did the birds and
squirrels feel as the logger cut down their homes? (There are no wrong
answers, and if you feel like crying, it’s ok.)

6. Teaching Math in the 2000s
If you have special needs or just feel you
need assistance because of race, color, religion, sex, sexual
orientation, age, childhood memories, etc., then don’t
answer and the correct answer will be provided for you.
There are no wrong answers.

A good friend once characterized public schools as “failure factories”. I think the term needs the addition of indoctrination. I thought this was a math textbook...where’s the math or is 2+2=4 a racist construct.

Despotism (Encyclopedia Britannica film, circa 1946)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaWSqboZr1w
“A community is low on a ‘Respect’ scale if common courtesy is withheld from large groups of people on account of their political attitudes.”

“...in a downright despotism opposition is dangerous whether the despotism is official or whether it is unofficial...”

“A community rates low on the ‘Information’ scale when the press, radio, and other channels of communication are controlled by only a few people and when citizens have to accept what they are told.”

“See how a community trains its teachers”
“...these students are being taught to accept uncritically whatever they are told. Questions are not encouraged.”

“And if books and newspapers and the radio [and facebook and youtube and...] are officially controlled the people will read and accept exactly what the few in control want them to. Government censorship is one form of control. The newspaper that breaks the government censorship rule can be suspended. It is also possible for newspapers and other lines of communication to be controlled by private interests...”

Democracy (Encyclopedia Britannica film, circa 1946)

“The newspapers of a real democracy meet these tests...”

Newspaper checks.
1. Balance of coverage
2. Disclosure of source
3. Competence of staff

I had to do a timed test for a company I interviewed with. It was for “job bidding” and you had to calculate how much an employee actually cost a company (including all time for training, paid holidays, paid days off (sick or vacation) etc).

I did well on the math but didn’t fit in with their social organization.
