STILLWATER, Minn. — In a year when nursing home windows have been as close as many people could come to parents and grandparents, Lisa Racine punched her ticket to see her dad inside.
“I was shocked, really. I was kind of dumbfounded,” Harold Racine, Lisa’s dad, says of the moment his daughter walked into his nursing home room.
“How did you get in?” he asked.
Last fall, Lisa, a fulltime project manager for a printing company, had a brainstorm.
“One day I just was thinking, ‘How can I see my dad more?’” Lisa recalls. “And I thought, ‘Hey, why don't I get a job there?’”
As luck would have it, Good Samaritan Society - Stillwater was hiring.
Let's just say it wasn't an executive position.
Since December, Lisa has been mopping floors and scraping plates in the nursing home kitchen.
“It's quite glamorous,” she laughs.

Thankfully for my siblings and me, our mother will live in one of our homes with us for the rest of her life. But I know other people don’t have that option - lots of respect for this woman for finding a way to spend time with her dad despite the insane lockdowns.

Cuomo is a fascist politician. He’s just in the Democrat Party because Mussolini was hung and his Fascista party dissolved. Otherwise he would be wearing the Italian fascist symbols on his coat lapel.

He doesn’t care about anyone other than himself. THAT’S WHAT HE IS ALL ABOUT!
When I’ve seen him on TV, he’s acted pleasant enough, but has never seemed to be the brightest light on Broadway, to put it mildly. The moment something challenging comes along, he crumbles and seems to have no resources at all.
The real question is: why have the people up there voted for him? You can’t always hold the sheer opportunist solely responsible - there are also the stupid people who fall for him.

My 94 year old mom is in a home for the elderly but hers is an apartment, Independent Living Apartment. She was locked down a lot last year but can come and go freely again. Hated to see her last good years locked in. She has always been a social butterfly.

My bet is most facilities are desperate for staff.
I know folks who’ve done this. They were great staff and great kids.
Some care facilities will ask an applicant if they are related to any of their employees or any of the residents.
I guess nobody asked that question. She even has the same last name as her Dad. Nice that she could do that, even if just for a few months.>>> Her cousin runs the place. Someone will yell racist and get her fired in a week.
I was in a conv. store and a guy was talking to a nursing home about coming to visit his Mom, he said he hasn’t seen her in a year and his brother was coming from Ca. to see her.
He said he would wear a hazmat suit and and a gas mask to see her. Poor guy was literally begging.
The nazi told him if he comes on the premises that they would have him arrested. I wasn’t eavesdropping on him, he was walking around in circles talking out loud. nazi would not relent.
Moral...Don’t put your loved one in a nursing home.
Aah yes.... the land of the free.
